Preserving avocados...

Saturday, January 04, 2014

Avocados were cheaper than usual so I bought 6. I looked up how to preserve them. Then I mashed some and also used the blender (nutribullet) to mix the mash with lemon juice. I packed this in snack sized baggies and froze them. I feel so virtuous. This is the first time I have ever done that. chris

I have frozen avocados for a long time but never added lemon juice before. Does it change the taste? I usually just use mine for guacamole when I thaw it back out.

my tree had so many avocados this year, and we gave them away until no one wanted them, I did try to snack bags, one avocado per bag, and took out the air and froze them, have not tried yet, but anxious to see if they are good, Thanks

You are my hero! I threw away so many over the summer after they'd gone bad. :( I was meaning to try this, I know the lemon is to preserve the color, but does it change the taste at all?

Thank you for sharing this with us. I have a real nice avocado right now and a few more a friend is sending to us from their farm. So, now at least i know what to do with them. I will have to try this.

Thanks for sharing the tip for preserving avocados! (I bought a packaged bag at Trader Joe's and they tend to all turn ripe at the same time)

You taught me something new. I've already hear of leaving the peel on and the seed in, but this is a way to keep a whole bunch of avocados. Thanks for this!

Interesting - I would have never thought of that! I also read that if you just want to use a portion of an avocado, peel off the portion that you are using, then leave the peel and intact. Take out the seed only when you get to that part of the avocado.
