#RockYouResolution

Thursday, January 02, 2014

I do not make resolutions. I just participate in the monthly spark challenges to keep improving my health and wellness. My January challenge is to work on flexibility. I checked out a great yoga DVD from my library a couple weeks ago to get started. I liked it so much I ordered it from Amazon.com.

I've been taking a yoga class once a week at my library for a couple years but I would like to do it more often. This morning, I saw some improvement. It's hard to describe the pose but I'm getting better at it when a couple weeks ago, I barely got anywhere near it.

Today has been a day, physical therapy appointment and visiting my sister in the hospital, all in a typical Chicago area lake effect snowy day. Lake effect snow, sounds pretty doesn't it? Yeah, if you're looking out at it from a cabin with nowhere to have to go, with lots of food, comfy clothes, tea and blankets.

It is SO NOT fun to drive in! I came very close to sliding into a snow plow truck this morning. It's been snowing for three days.

Without thinking, I used the ujjayi breathing technique I learned in the yoga DVD after I just missed sliding into that truck this morning to calm myself down and continue on to my physical therapy appointment. Bonus number two of my January challenge.

Tomorrow, we are expecting sub-zero temps to set in. Less than 80 days till spring here. Must keep my focus on my goals!

Stay warm and safe if you are experiencing similar weather!

I like your point about not making resolutions but following monthly challenges. I put a calander alert on my phone for every two weeks to re-evaluate my goals.

I'm from the midwest but currently on the coast. I miss the snow but I do not miss the driving you describe. Stay safe!

    Happy New Year, Kellie!

Glad you are enjoying your yoga sessions. My physical therapist says that within 6 months I should be able to resume doing yoga full force with my new hip! I can't tell you what good news that was to hear.

I am counting the days to autumn, although it could be quite warm. I love cool to really cold evenings as I sleep so much better. You can have my summer and I will take your winter, at least for one season, then I will miss the summer berries too much!

Even down here in the south we are experiencing cold and snow - wow wee, this is some crazy weather, and I think that next week is going to be worse! I don't make resolutions but this year I said that I will BE HEALTHY and BE STRONG. I want to work hard on strength this year and I will set some smaller monthly goals to make that happen. Right now to get started I am doing the January Jumpstart - easy but effective!

Stay warm and enjoy your yoga!

Countdown from 80...good idea. I don't envy you the snow. You can keep it. But you did awesome calming yourself! Way to go!

I don't make resolutions, either! I make goals and a yearly "to do" list. It has personal things on it, house goals, financial goals. This year I want to lose 15 pounds and be at 125.

I love your monthly goals. It keeps things fresh! I always enjoy your blogs.

    Why don't you make resolutions?

I see this is a very popular thing in the US, here in Europe, I see it less. In fact, I've never done it before joining SP.

My experience was from last year that even those goals and resolutions that I didn't not focus on later, had a lot of progress. Talking to several people, they had similar experiences. Somehow it works unconsciously, so I keep on doing them.

The arctic storm has arrived in Nes England. Snow, cold and windy. Almost wrecked the car twice this morning and once this afternoon. I love it.
