Here is what I'm going to do...

Wednesday, January 01, 2014

Okay, so it's January 1st. Time to look at the year past and make plans for the new year just started. I don't like the idea of resolutions, at least not for me. They seem too easy to put aside after a couple of weeks. So, instead, I have some specific plans. Semantics? Yep.

Plan #1: I'm going to read an average on one book per week. I just finished a book today, so I'm starting very close to the beginning. So, at the end of 2014, I will have read 52 books. Please be aware that I do not read educational material. This is pure entertainment.

Plan #2: I will lose 12 pounds by the end of April. That's three pounds per month. Totally doable. I will revamp my eating plan and actually stick to it! My exercise quantity is pretty good.. Quality could be improved. I will add HIIT to two workouts per week and start lifting two or three times per week.

Plan #3: I would like to have more definition in my arms. Right now, I have bat wings that continue to wave for hours after my hand is done. I love Kelly Ripa's arms! I don't think I'll quite reach that level, but there has to be a happy middle ground, right? I'll take a picture in the morning to show where I'm starting.

Plan #4: I will save $1 the first week of the year. I will increase this by $1 each week until the end of the year where I will save $52 that week. Should have quite a chunk of cash for Christmas by the end of the year. I plan to make a list with each week listed and cross off the week as I save that number. I do not have to save in order. For example, this week, I may have $60 to set aside. I can cross off the $52 week and the $8 week or some other combination. The goal is to cross off (and save) each number by the end of the year.

That's it. Four goals. That's enough.

Good luck to all my "Sparkles" (thanks John, great term!) on their plans for the new year!

I love hanging around with engineers and accountants. you guys are so precise and I love your clarity.

At the risk of embarrassing you Barb, you have always been one of the people here at Spark people that are (is?) my heroes. You go about things quietly and deliberately and you evoke a sense of balance and serenity. At least that's the vibe I get from you.

And........... you have an amazing sense of humor.

Ergo........... I have no doubt you'll reach your goals

Awesome goals! Please report back on what you are reading. I'm always looking for new things...

Here are some suggestions for books/authors:

Anything by Philippa Gregory (historical fiction)

Anything by Diana Gabaldon (historical/romance/time travel - can't really pigeon hole her)

Dr. Sleep (if you like Stephen King)

The Eyes of the Dragon (by Stephen King, but not typical Stephen King - fairy tale almost and I was really enchanted by it!)

My Stroke of Insight - Jill Bolte Taylor

The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by K. Howe

Pillars of the Earth Series by Ken Follet

What do you recommend lately?

I like your plan! It is completely do able! It's not so dramatic that you will be overwhelmed by it! I know you can do it.

P.S. I'm a big book reader as well. Last year my total was 97

Great plans!! I'm a slow reader and could never do a book a week!! I envy you!! Love the money saving idea, too! I'm still thinking what I might like to do--committing to my health may be a place to start. emoticon

Great specific plans! I like the way your brain thinks! I totally agree with you on the books, only fun stuff! I like to read my Kindle at the gym and I listen to a lot of audio books.

Wow! Book a week? Are you speed reading? No, seriously, I'd be lucky to read a book a month. No TV time for you :) (That's a good thing.)
Are we still working on getting one real pull-up done? ;) I have not followed through on that. I definitely could benefit from some upper body strength.
Love your savings goal. That would pay for a nice domestic vacation at the end of 2014... Hmm, considering this...
Happy New Year!

You are way more organized than I, but I'm working on it. We've had company here for almost 2 weeks - almost forgot to make the mortgage payment -doh. I love your goals. I am formulating mine. Must think, think, think.
