For the month of December, I participated in the Fitbit Users group's Winter Walk Challenge. We each chose a number of steps to walk and tracked our progress. I chose 250,000 steps because I knew I wasn't yet walking 10,000 steps per day and wanted to shoot a little lower so I wouldn't give up as soon as I neglected to walk 10,000 steps.
I walked 200,871 this month!
In the process I learned a lot about my habits. I learned that I should really pay more attention to my fitbit instead of having it be this thing that passively clips onto my pants. One day I walked 9,788 steps- I totally should have been keeping an eye on things because that is too close to 10,000! If I had been paying attention, I could have done something active to reach 10,000.
I also saw how my mood affects my activity level. The tail end of December was HORRIBLE for me, which led to a depressive episode and just kind of laying around the house. Clearly I need a better support/coping system in place (besides therapy) so that I can bounce back quicker.
I really liked this challenge and will aim for 250,000 steps this month too!
