I've just written something that scared me...

Wednesday, January 01, 2014

I just updated my feed to read, "This is my year to reach goal".

Then I sat back and thought about what I'd written. I haven't thought much about reaching goal. It's been all about tracking, exercising, learning new ways to cook, reading labels... but now the goal is actually in sight... still 17 lbs away, but in sight.

Can I do it? Yes, it's possible. Will I do it? Only time will tell.

I've lost weight many times. I've never learned to keep it off. SP is different from any other program i've used to lose weight. I'd never heard of balancing carbs, protein and healthy fats. I'm just starting to learn about caloric differentials. I have a long way to go... but maybe, just maybe, this will be my year to reach goal!

And you, my special Spark Friends, have played a huge part in this program. Thank you for your help and support. I love you all.

Good for you, Gail! I don't think what you're feeling is uncommon or strange. Changing and stretching are challenges as to what we think of and how we see ourselves. Keep on doing what you're doing!

GAIL, If you are happy doing what you are doing now why will it need to change. If you are happy eating right, still keeping up with your exercises you enjoy In MY HUMBLE OPINION nothing should change.
The problem is when people reach goal and give up being vigilant enough to not over indulge in eating the "OLD" way and putting back snack, staying on the couch. That is where Maintenance is. However if you do not keep up main taint you will GO back.
Think about the car simile- if you want to own a beautiful car and someone says it can last 4 years then after those years you no longer need to do the oil, right gas new tires it is MAINTENANCE. If you leave it in the garage and do no more maintenance we all know what happens, it goes to pieces sitting idle and not well maintained.
That is my philosophy. Once you STOP leading your healthy lifestyle nothing should change but statistics show once you do give up in maintenance and stop being vigilant 80% of people go back to the lifestyle that got them there in the first place.

So, I take it you are afraid of what about your life may/might change when you reach your goal... I don't think you need to be scared... in maintenance mode you will still be living the same healthy habits that you have been learning...but you will not need to maintain the calorie deficit to continue weight loss.... just enough to balance out the days when you went a little the other way.
It isn't as if you are going to throw out all your healthy habits and pick up your old ways once you reach your goals...
Hope you are Keeping WARM, and Safe... Your world is colder than mine and mine is plenty cold enough.
Love and Hugs, Audra

I think reaching a goal is intimidating because then you think... what now? I know I've kept myself from reaching goals because I've been so focus on trying to get there, that I never prepared myself for what it would be like to actually BE there, and what would come next?
