New Year's Eve at the infusion center AC#3

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

This will be short because I feel a little fuzzy-headed right now sitting in a chemo infusion chair.

Today has been a long day at the infusion center getting chemo, meeting with the doctor and getting my BRCA results. My first appointment today was at 11:30am and we won't be leaving until around 7:30 pm.

The good news is that I'm BRCA negative. If I had been BRCA positive, I would be getting a double mastectomy and my ovaries out. Since I'm BRCA negative, my oncologist and my breast surgeon both think I should have a lumpectomy only. I plan on following their advice. It's a little scary to go with a lumpectomy with triple negative breast cancer, but I trust them.

Today, I'm getting AC infusion #3 of 4. My oncologist warned me that the next two weeks would probably be the toughest one of all of my time on chemo. For some reason, this third infusion really wears people out. I figure I'll be sleeping A LOT. If you don't hear much from me over the next two weeks, it's because I'm hibernating. Honestly, I don't care how hard it is....this chemo is working to shrink my tumor, so I'm more than willing to put up with tons of fatigue if that's what it takes. If I have to spend a lot of time sleeping, I figure January is one of the better months for it!

Happy New Year to all my wonderful SparkFriends. Thank you for your fantastic support in 2013. I have a feeling that 2014 is going to be a very good year.

Hugs,
Kay

Praying for your recovery. So pleased that you are BRCA negative, and don't have to suffer a double mastectomy. Recovery will be physically hard, but the goal of recovery is what you have to keep in the forefront of your mind.

I think January is a good month to "hibernate"; and just think, by now you are three quarters of the way done with the AC!

Great news with the BRCA test also. I never had that one done. I didn't know about it when I was first diagnosed, and no one ever suggested it to me.

Happy New Year Kay, and wishing a year of happiness and healing for you! emoticon

Kay, thanks so much for the time & energy to send us such a great report! I'm sure soooo glad that the more major surgeries were avoided. It's still a real a tough road & you're in my thoughts & prayers every single day. A nurse got in my very opinionated dh's face and said ....loud & clear, "Listen, bub, your body can either heal or it can do the little things you "think" you should be doing. Make a choice....HEAL or NOT heal." I'm so glad that you're willing to do what your body so badly needs....rest & heal.... period. You're going to come through this with flying colors and so many people are watching and remembering your courage & strength. Besides that ...we love you & think you're a-w-e-s-o-m-e! emoticon

I'll be thinking about you. Remember that sleep is good for you. It's healing! A lumpectomy is much easier than a mastectomy especially after what you have been through already. Have faith and trust your doctors. It's good to hear that you are BRCA negative. It sounds like going into 2014 will be a banner year!
