Importance of Being Present

Tuesday, December 31, 2013

I realized last night how truly important it is to be present - and to teach my kids the same. It was a crazy day, got home with the kids around 5:30 and was just exhausted - so kind of flopped in my chair and let the kids play on their electronics (son got a DS and daughter a LeapPad from Santa)... after a few minutes I realized that the three of us where in the same room, but none of us were present. emoticon How sad. While I know that we will all still play on our respective electronics at times, I think it's critical that we teach ourselves, and our kids, how to live in the here and now - who is in the room... how are they... what are they doing... who are they as people. Engage!

Anyway, that's really all. Alarm went off this morning to work out and, lo and behold, we had no power ... so, no workout this morning... am going to try to fit in at least 30 min on the treadmill after the kids are in bed tonight. Eating yesterday was better than it has been. Not perfect, but better.

Here's to a good end to 2013 - games, family, and sleep (that's my plan for the night)!
emoticon Happy New Year everyone! emoticon

'Being present- goes along with my mantra for the new year to 'pay attention' dawned on me the past few weeks that so many of my health issues with weight and other things come about because I simply quit paying attention to my feelings, needs, choices....This year by Paying Attention ( or being present) in my life I plan to make real progress on my healthy lifestyle options!

You are so right about making sure you are present. Sometimes I realize dh and I have sat here for an hour without either of us saying a word because we're so absorbed in our computers, or occasionally tv. I always feel like I'm wasting precious time with him when we do that. I'm sure you feel the same about your kids, especially since they are growing and changing every day.

Poop on no power, but good luck getting the workout in tonight!

Enjoy your New Year!
