I would not win any races, but I ran a full mile for the first time in my life!! The first time was in November...being in WI, the cold and snow came a littler earlier than I would have liked. I was only able to get outside and run a few times since then. So I joined a gym (and pool). I am not made to run on a treadmill. My mind needs distractions! But I am not giving up. It was nice out the other day, so I went outside...took a mile on crappy snow/ice covered roads to find pavement, but when I did I was so happy I went for a 5k! I ran/walked the whole thing. Felt amazing! My husband bought me a Garmin GPS watch for Christmas and I wanted to log my first 5k in it :)
I am starting a challenge with a friend tomorrow, and our reward is a 5k together at the end of the 3 months! I know I can do this. If I can workout every day for a full month, I can do 5 days a week for 3 months.
Now, I know I will never be a distance runner. I think 2 hours of running would be a test of how long I can be alone with my own mind... But my husband has me thinking Triathlons. Now that I can get excited for! There is one in June that he is doing the International distance at (the day after a Ragnar Relay Race, he is insane). I am thinking of the Sprint distance. That is a .25 mile swim (8 laps in a 25 meter pool), 11 mile bike and 5k run. I think I can do that, if I can get myself up to running a 5k. I have swum 8 laps in a pool recently...slowly, but I did it. And I use my spinning bike, so I am already training for the bike part. I can do this. I am excited to try. I have a goal that is bringing new motivation to me!
