Christmas Eve...the night on which our Savior was born in Bethlehem..well the night it's celebrated. We sit here and complain about how cold it is, how much it snows, etc...but we fail to stop and think about those who have no home, no shelter and are out there in the below freezing temperatures trying to survive.
I don't think we have anything to complain about, and maybe we should think about helping them, whether donating food, clothes, or just taking a bit of our time to talk to them.
I remember when my Dad was in ICU, there was an older man who came into the waiting room where I slept, and would sleep on the couch across from me. I knew he was homeless, but we'd talk and I actually got to know him. I found out he knew my cousin because she runs a shop where they give away things to homeless, and the last day my Dad was up there, he left me a note and it said, "If you ever need anything, please call me." and he left his phone number and his name. (Yes, the homeless do have cell phones, sometimes.)
What a generous gift, someone who had no home, barely any clothes, nothing to his name, was willing to help me. What an angel in disguise.
So you see, the homeless are just people like us who've come upon hard times...remember that next time you see someone who's homeless..and offer a helping hand in some way.
I hope you have a Blessed Christmas Eve.
