It's funny: I was just thinking about these S.M.A.R.T. goals in connection with my New Year's Resolutions for 2014, and then I went to play trivia and the first question was asking what "S.M.A.R.T." stood for.

It must be fate.

Well, I'm still thinking about what my goals will be, but what about you? Do you make resolutions? Care to share them? Do you have any for me?

    I love this. I don't do "resolutions" because the term doesn't lend itself to creating SMART goals the way "goals" does. People tend to say, "My new years resolution is to lose weight or eat healthier or spend more time with family." But it takes a driven person to turn that "resolution" ("This will be so because I resolved it to be") into a goal ("This will be so and this is HOW I WILL GET THERE").

Anyway, to answer your question, I am kind of with Kay. I am going to continue my goal of at least one race a month; however, I need to be searching for 10k's this year. 5k's have become too easy. That's really it. I need to eat better, but I have tried so many times to get on that train and my schedule is just so sporadic that I settle for doing what I can. I somehow manage to stay healthy so I'm fine with it, lol.

    I will be attempting my first Marathon in 2014.

I also every year: Do something I have never done before - 2014 hiking Zion!

I also try to run a race in a new state every year....Thinking VT in July. Or maybe R and R in Savannah in November.


There are some other ones: Financial etc.. but all fall into SMART

    I HEART trivia!!! I played it all the time in DC. What a coincidence about the question!

I haven't given my goals much thought for 2014. I love New Year's resolutions. I'll share when I have them.

    Walk around the (5 mile) block every day that the roads are good.

Salad every day.
Play and breathe
Yoga 3xs a week

    I think I have so many goals throughout the year that I really don't make New Years resolutions per se. Right now I'm working on a strength goal. I had purchased a training program when it was half price and then my small group ended, so it was good timing to start that program. I'm about 3 weeks in to the 16 week program, so I think I'll just stick with that!

So that said, have you thought about a strength training goal? I know you get a lot of steps in, and maybe you also strength train, but if you don't that may be something to think about adding into the mix! emoticon emoticon

I think one's lifestyle is like a trip on the freeway...steer too sharply and you could run off the road... I make small adjustments only. emoticon
