Bruised but not broken

Monday, December 23, 2013

I'm either an incurable optimist or a very slow learner (Or both!). Regardless, today I'm very grateful that my rear is very well padded. As much as I had high hopes for my new spiky shoes, I've found they simply won't cut it on very hard ice. And, of course, I had to fall on my butt (and hands, and and knees and elbows) no less than four times before concluding this. My elbows and knee are bruised and two fingers have cuts, still my tailbone is just fine.

The 30 minute jog I had planned turned into 15 minutes of slipping, sliding, grabbing onto branches, before I finally turned around to find a less dangerous path to carefully walk home..

It was a truly beautiful day. Here is a photo I took just a few seconds before falling on my a.. (ehmm) backside the first time.

Gorgeous, right? I know winter solstice was just the day before yesterday, still, I think it's so much brighter outside already.

This is taken just prior to me getting myself in some serious (and, I'll admit, hilarious) trouble down the steep hills. (I wish I had it on film, it really was slapstick comedy..)

Oh well, I'm OK. Thankfully I plan to wear a dress with long sleeves tomorrow. And I'll be forced to have proper table manners for once, no way I'm leaning my elbows on the table now. ;)

Happy holidays!

Oh, wow. Where I live it rarely even freezes, and I've often wondered about dedicated runners who go out on the ice. That is real determination! I'm glad you made it (relatively) unscathed, and good job to you, too! Also - your photos are gorgeous. Thank you!

Sometimes our extra padding pays off! Glad you didn't hurt yourself too badly. I have had two falls already this winter due to ice, so I know what you mean.
