You know you have been working too many hours when....

Monday, December 23, 2013

I have just finished the most ridiculous mammoth run of work, I have just worked 48 days straight - that's 7 days a week with 12+ hour days. To say I am exhausted would be an understatement - NEVER AGAIN!

A couple of weeks ago my husband told me that his brother wanted to pop up and stay for a weekend in January, but the weekend he had suggested clashed with my daughter's birthday plans - so I said: "He can't come that weekend, it clashes with Sarah's birthday and we promised she could have a sleepover with her friends, Sarah will be really disappointed if we change our plans now."
My husband was looking at me a bit strangely so I asked "Do you disagree, do you think we should invite your brother that weekend anyway?"
My husband replies "No, I completely agree with's just that our daughter is called Rebecca!"

When you start to forget the names of your children you really have the whole work-life balance thing completely out of whack.

I know it is a bit early for New Year's resolutions but, for the sake of my family, my health and my sanity, my promise for 2014 is to really work on getting that work-life balance back again. I know it is going to be easier said than done, so wish me luck!

Heh I can totally relate. Earlier this year, working a very stressful job with long hours, I remember sitting on the couch and beginning to have something of a panic about the fact that I couldn't remember what letter of the alphabet came after Q. This is something I've known since I was 3, for goodness' sake. I couldn't even sing the alphabet song to remember, it was a total and utter blank.

I quit that job not long afterwards, after 8 long years there. Now I know that it's P. Or S. Or. Um. V! That's right!

I can relate. When I was working full time at an employer's, starting up our new business from home, AND taking my master's degree, I was so tired I felt like my eyes were sliding down my face. I was talking to an acquaintance about her four kids and didn't realize until after that she only had three. We never heard from her again. I'm sure she thought I was on drugs.

Your resolution is PERFECT! Make it happen!

HAHAHA! I have three boys and one girl, and the boys are really close in age (6, 5, 3), and my husband INCESSENTLY calls them the wrong names! LOL Gets their names mixed up all the time! HA!

It is important to have the right balance between family and work. It's times like this when I am thankful I stay home, even though it is a great sacrifice financially.

Happy Birthday Rebecca!
