Blessing Megan…...

Thursday, December 19, 2013

My report came in by 10:45 and my DGD Anita, called her mom Susan my DDIL to inform me that my infection has cleared out completely. We had a mini-celebration, and immediately my DGGDIL Maria was sent for and asked to come down with little Megan to my room.

All praise to the Lord, our creator….. I don't think I ever felt so emotional holding any grandchild before, I had tears rolling down my cheek and was literally sobbing. I was actually beginning to think I might never be able to hold baby Megan. Rocked her, kissed her, cuddled and fondled her while she was blissfully asleep…. what an Angel…..miracle of our Lord…. May the Lord shower her with all his Mercy.

We have a small ritual where the eldest member of the family has to bless the new born with holy water. DH did that as soon as she was born and so now we got out the holy water and some ash and I had the honor of blessing my 5th Great Great Grandchild…. Thank you Lord, my Father and my Protector for giving me this lovely moment.

As we bless, we again have a custom in India (too many customs right….) that whenever you set out towards a new venture, chapter in your life….. you need to take the blessings of your elders. The Indian culture basically is all about revering your elders almost harboring on worship. How does one get the blessings of the elders, by touching their feet and then kissing their hand. The elder then places the hand on the blessing seekers head and says a good wish, may the Lord grant you success….health….. long life….. what ever….. We call it Asheervadam….
At home all my children will take DH and my blessings before they leave home to start their day. I am still lucky that even today I have elders whose blessings I can take. Yes my back won't allow me to bend but every time I meet my 2 older brothers & Sis-in-law I still kiss their hands and seek their blessings. And we very strongly believe in the power of blessings we receive

And the best part was that little Megan was wearing the little baby set I had knitted for her. I was thrilled to bits. Can't thank my Maria (DGGDIL) enough for the lovely gift she has given me.

Please bless my little Megan and her lovely Mother Maria and father Edward…..

I am so excited that I just can't put this into words, the joy, the happiness and also to see an extension of you, my 5th generation….. it seems to be hitting home now about the wonderful journey the Lord has taken me through. My only prayer is God let is end with the same grace and dignity….. Protect us father as we are at your mercy only…….

Mani, your Megan is a beautiful little girl. You indeed are blessed to have her in your life - and I know you will be a blessing to her and Maria. I so enjoy your tender stories about your family and your life. You should be writing a book of your memories for your family.

Mani...I am so excited to hear this good news that your disease is all gone. Like Barbara, your custumes are beautiful and I loved hearing about them . We need more reverence in our country. May GOD grant many years to sweet Megan so she may know her GGgrandma and GG Grandpapa and how wonderful she (you) is. emoticon I can imagine her sweet smell as you held her and kissed her. I am jealous (wink) that you get to love on her and all the young ones you have around you. You truly are a blessed woman.

Mani, your joy in holding Megan for the first time and your description of your Indian customs regarding the blessings from elders is beautiful to read, exquisite! In my opinion, we Americans could do with more customs, beginning with revering our elders and desiring/receiving blessings from our elders. Brought tears to my eyes to read of your gratitude to God, and how it was for you to finally hold dear Megan.

Thank you, Mani, for sharing this with us. Now, post more photos please.

May God continue blessing you and your family.
Many hugs and prayers,
Barbara
