There is a new addition emoticon to the family !!! Yea emoticon

I'm so JAZZED. emoticon So excited, thrilled, happy. emoticon

Yesterday, emoticon Dan the UPS man came by bringing us a package. emoticon It was our new Omega VRT4oo Juicer !

Hubby said that last night he had a nightmare. emoticon When he opened the box in his dreams it was the wrong machine. emoticon This morning hubby quickly opened the box this morning to see it was the right juicer. Whew, what a relief.

I decided on the VRT400 after watching hours worth of videos, research, and phone calls to the Omega juicer company. The reason I went with this model is, it comes with a 15 year warranty on all parts. Our Breville juicer passed a few weeks back. It just died all of a sudden, like it had a hear attack. emoticon Gone. emoticon It was expensive, close to $300. It only had a one year warranty. We had replaced the blade and basket once. In comparison the Omega juicer with it's 15 year warranty I don't have to worry about the cost of replacement parts. To top it off the price was comparable. The icing on the cake emoticon was a $85.00 discount with a coupon for 20% off from Bed Bath and Beyond.

This morning I took VRT for a spin. I had 2 bags of Granny Smith Apples and a few wilted carrots. I turned her ON and she hummed quietly. No I need ear plugs to operate. She is very quiet, soft-spoken, a pleasure to listen to. The opening you feed the produce through is smaller than the Breville, but larger than the Sampson juicer I have. She is called a slow juicer, but I found her to run at a moderate pace. Yes she does not swallow whole apples, but it doesn't take a ton of chopping to trim them to the correct size. The Sampson juicer required much smaller pieces. As fast as I could chop the pieces of the apples she swallowed. The juice she produced was very green. In comparison the Breville's juice was more of a tan color. The VRT juice was very flavorful. YUM. The juice comes out of a spout, into a container that catches the juice. It came with a screen that catches any pulp and foam that comes out. Within a few minutes I had over 2 quarts of fresh apple juice. She swallowed the carrots whole. emoticon

VRT is self-feeding. I didn't have to push down with the pusher device more than twice. It makes juicing more of a one person operation. It was so easy to use. I don't have lots of strength due to the multiple sclerosis, this juicer was easy to use and clean. Years back I had a Green Star Juice and a Champion juicers. While they are good juicers they took more strength to clean and push the produce down. I probably wouldn't have the strength now to use those juicers. The VRT makes juicing easy.

The pulp came out much drier than the Breville or Sampson 6-in-1 juicer. They say the juicer can make nut milk and wheat grass juice. Later when the frost melts off of the wheat grass I will try juicing some to see how well it juices it. I have some nuts soaking so I can try making the nut milk later today. It can also juice coconut flesh to make coconut milk.

While I only had one ingredient to juice at the moment, (the wilted carrots don't count) I am really impressed with the VRT. The flavor seemed more intense, the color of the apple juice was a bright green. The VRT is a slow juicer so the quality of the juice is supposed to be better than a Breville. It does not oxidize as quickly. The juice retained it's green color until I swallowed the last bit of it. emoticon Where as the Breville juice color would of been more of a light tan color. That means the VRT's juice is more nutritious, full of enzymes. I am happy that the Breville passed, it opened the door for new and better things. The Breville is going to the recyclers. emoticon emoticon

One part on the VRT broke while being used. Its a drip stopper. It's a plug that stops the drips once you finish juicing. I called the company and they are sending me a new part immediately. They didn't question me or give me a hard time. WOW.

I must get back to the juice fasting, reboot. I did 4 or 5 days with no mess ups. I was impressed with how well I felt on the fast. The last couple of days I ate normally. My weight has stayed down, but I feel worse eating the foods I ate. Going off the reboot made the MS symptoms go WILD. My body is telling me to Reboot for a longer period of time. I need to let the reboot work it's MAGIC healing and detoxing my body longer. When I was on the reboot for 4-5 days my energy increased, I felt better, stronger, more alert. I slept better on the juice fast. When I got up in the middle of the night and snacked in zombie state, the next day I felt crappy, physically weak. It was only a slice of cheese that made me feel bad. The difference is major. I must press on, restart the fast as it worked for me. Juicing is like the finest medicine for my body. Nothing I ever have done feels as good as juicing does. emoticon

Yesterday's juice was cucumber, apple, orange, lemon grass. YUM. I also made some wheat grass juice and juiced the fenugreek sprouts and a few kale leaves. Not so yummy, but healthy goodness.

I'm so glad to hear about your success and happiness with your new juicer. It does sound like a great addition to the family! lol

I can't say I can get used to the idea of drinking green stuff. But I was excited about the prospect of nut milks! I can't do dairy, so I use lots of coconut and almond milk. I would think you could get double-duty out of your juicer by first making the milk, and then dehydrating and further grinding the "pulp" into nut meal. I use lots of that for baking (on the few occasions I bake)... so you might consider it if you are more of a baker than I am.

Congrats on your new toy!
We're going to see more recipes and pics, right?
hehe

I dusted mine off a few weeks ago. Been making juice each morning for the hubster and myself, and one for him to take with him.

We watched fat, sick, and nearly dead so he is all on board.

I used celery, cucumber, apple, spinach, carrots - cuz that is what I had. Not sure if that is a special blend for anything in particular, but it is good. And then this week to mine, I started adding a grapefruit to the mix.

Your new juicer sounds perfect for you! I'm glad you like it so much.

I never have thought of juicing raw sweet potatoes. I'm surprised that can be done since eating a raw potato isn't a good thing. Maybe sweet potatoes are different. I'll have to research that because we always have sweet potatoes on hand and I could certainly add them to the mix. I'm always learning stuff from you. Thanks!

emoticon on the new addition to your kitchen. I have the Nutri bullet, but just can't get that excited about juicing. When I make my soups I go back to my regular blender because I like the creamy consistency. I'd like to find some recipes for soups for the winter. Enjoy your new baby!!
