Touched by Cancer

Wednesday, December 18, 2013

I've been on the planet for almost 41 years. It must have been some kind of record to go that long without being impacted by the Big C.

Well, catching up for lost time, I found out today that a dear friend was just diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer of the breast, spine, and liver.

I'm just stunned. I don't know what her chances are, but if anyone can kick it, it's her.

I am so sorry about your friend and I will keep both of you in my prayers.

I went through this with a very good friend several years ago and she said the best thing I could do is let her vent and be honest about her feelings. She felt like she always had to be positive and upbeat with her family and she needed a place where she could voice her feelings and fears. It will be hard for you, but so helpful if she needs that.

So very sorry. This begins to sound like a very trite statement and for that I am most sorry. Cancer is insidious and seemingly everywhere. :::sigh:::

You've gotten wise advice and I know you will be there for your friend in any way you can. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Our family went through tis recently. This is what I learned: be there for your friend. She might or might not want to talk about it . follow her lead. Be a good listener. Offer to help. Treatment can be emotionally an physically draining. Maybe she will need help getting to her appointments or with child care. Please refrain from speaking in platitudes. It can be very disturbing to hear, "everything will be all right."

Sending good wishes you and your friends way.

I will hold her close in prayer. My friend just had a double mastectomy. She just started round one of 13 weeks of chemo. She is only 44. It's a scarey thing. I will be praying for you as well. That you can be a rock that she can lean on during this most difficult battle.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. It's such a tough one, and I don't even have any magical words to make it better. But I am sending thoughts, hugs, and prayers to you and her. I am thinking about both of you.
