How exciting! I used to be a Vet. Tech. and I can say with confidence that Labs are some of the best dogs there are, and they do make great walking/running partners.

I have a chihuahua mix. He is super cute, but he can be yappy and he doesn't want to go outside if the weather isn't nice. You won't have those issues with your dog! I am a little jealous, I love puppies! Just be patient with him when training, and he will do great!

Oh that is wonderful news!! emoticon Congratulations on your new baby-doggie. We would love to have a dog (or two) but we come and go too much right now. We plot and plan and go on the internet and even think about names LOL. You're so lucky the time is right for you now. Enjoy!! emoticon emoticon

I am so excited for you all - Labs are wonderful as all dogs are but my Molly Girl was a Lab / Shepard mix was the most loving dog with a personality that charmed the neighborhood , they are mischevious with fun and fill your life with much love and laughter ! Hugs to all of you , Karen - BTW - great walking partner !! emoticon

Fantastic!! How fun to have a new walking partner, I think in the next year or so we may get a puppy as well, seeing you excited about it makes me want to run out and find one! Enjoy!

p.s.
I've always liked the name Pepper

I'm not a dog owner but used to clean houses and always loved to go to the places where the dog was a lab!
Read those books, the public library should have some, our local college has training classes with your dog every spring, maybe check into dog training classes in your area, and most of all relax and enjoy!

walking shoes! LOL... and a walking coat since it's cold outside... and I heard it's good to carry water with you for a dog to drink from during a walk.

:)

So glad you got a new walking partner.

I have a yellow lab... well she was part of the package deal when I married DH seven years ago. Labs are so lovable. Show him a ton of love.

Before I moved in, DH had ours trained beautifully, he trained her to lay down when food is on the table so no begging dog. When he gave her food, he played with her, tossed her food around so she wouldn't be the kind of dog that growled at you when you went near her food.

When I moved in, I started walking her to work on my fitness and it helped her loose a couple pounds the vet wanted. We started out walking up and down the block each evening after dinner and worked up to a mile which we still do now.

There are books on lab you can pick up. They just have a wonderful, lovable disposition. Cuddle with him often and you will have a lifelong friend.

Oh my gosh, you are SOOO lucky!! We had a black lab and he was so smart, loyal, awesome thing. I loved him more than anything. They are very smart and easy to train. I was scared he was big when our granddaughter was born. He was so gentle with her. Have a great time. Did you pick out a name yet?

I love walking with my dogs but of course they are small, your lab puppy will grow much bigger so have lots of fun and enjoy!
