Life is coming back

Monday, December 16, 2013

We were getting ready to pull out of our drive way, when I spotted a Raven across the street. It was on the very top of our neighbors Juniper Tree. The Raven must be from royalty, as he was looking very noble.

We were driving past the Hawk tree, and spotted the male Hawk. He actually let me take a few pictures this time before he flew off. It was a cloudy day, so the pictures are darker then I like. He is such a handsome bird.

I took some pictues near the Hawk tree.

More pictures of Elizabeth Lake. I am happy to say, more bushes and trees have sprouted. Earlier then I expected. Maybe because the the rain we have had.

Part of the trail we walk. The tops of the trees survived, and some shrubs are bouncing back.

Someone has a sense of humor. The water level at the lake is very low, so someone put a for sale sign in the middle of the lake.

Interesting clouds.

Have a good Monday, and stay safe!

You ought to call the realtor just to be funny and ask how much? hehehe
The least that would happen he would get his sign back...probably stolen. Glad to see that life is coming back at the burn site. At least you can still walk through there. Pretty lake!
Those hawks are magnificent birds! Always fascinate me! By the way glad you liked the seagull pic...they are one of my fave birds!
I will be offline and back in a month...taking a break, leading up to vacation. Have a good rest of the year and a great start to 2014! See ya next year! emoticon

That male hawk is gorgeous! I am glad he let you take some pictures! How terribly sad to see the devastation caused by the fire at the lake... but truly encouraging to see the rebirth too.

Yes, I think the bird I saw was a Raven, same beak and so big all the rest were crows. Great picture. Beautiful hawk, glad for the new growth in the burned area.

Nature is amazing in the way it can regenerate. I'm originally from Nova Scotia, and we camped every year in Cape Breton. One year a campfire got away from campers in the backcountry, and the wind swept it out to the ocean at Cape Smokey. We visited several weeks later, and were devastated by the destruction.

When we returned the next spring, there was new life all over the mountain, and now, 30 years later, there are only a few whitened tree trunks to show there was ever a fire.

I hope your area regenerates in the same way.

Enjoy your holiday preparations,
Gail emoticon

Beautiful photos, Jeanne! So glad to see that the Elizabeth Lake area is coming back. The lake must be REALLY low if someone could stick a for sale sign in the middle of it! Hope that water levels recover soon. Our water levels are low here locally too. The Brazos River has very little water flowing down in it. We tubed down it a year ago Memorial Day but that is an impossibility now! We need a LOT more precipitation, hopefully in the form of rain, and not snow! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I remember when I lived out West and rain was so precious. I visited Santa Fe the first week of November and the memories of the landscape came back, so different from Florida. I am so glad the hawk waited for you to take a photo. He probably feels safe around you now. Thanks for sharing your lovely day with us and enjoy Monday. emoticon emoticon
