I will not leave you in suspense. I took first place in my age group for the 6.2 mile run!I wore bells and jingled all the way!! The temperature was in the mid-60s and the overcast sky turned to blue before the event was over. Great day for running! I got 7 hours sleep even though my nephew picked me up at 5:30am. I did better eating the day before and the morning of the race and had no GI problems this time. I consumed 4 Gu Chomps during the race and that seemed just right. Nonetheless, I was almost 2 minutes slower than my fastest 10K, so no PR. But this course had a lot of turns and some hills. I set my Garmin for run 4 minutes/walk 30 seconds, but I didn't stick to it. Several times I was listening to my MP3 player and didn't hear my Garmin and ran through the walk break. Then sometimes I walked when it wasn't time yet when it was uphill. Some day I hope to break an hour for a 10K, but I'll have to really do some speed work to take 3 minutes off my time. My husband tried to take a picture of me at the award ceremony, but the picture did not turn out. Oh, well. The best surprise of the 10K was that my nephew Martin took second place in his age group.
There is our family dog, Kahlua, resting before the race. Here she is with hubby outside the library that sponsored the race and benefits from it:
Above they are racing. Below they are near the finish:
And they posed right before finishing:
My daughter was feeling a little under the weather and didn't bring the granddaughters for the kid's runs. It would have been nice, but not necessary for a great race day.
There were about a dozen people from my Galloway group at the race, including Ellen who took first place in her new age group. See below. It is her 70th birthday today. I hope to be doing the same thing on my 70th!!
Notice that the man in the orange hat with his back to the camera is my husband. I ran my 21st race this morning; he walked his first. I am very proud of him!!
