Prioritizing for the Holidays

Saturday, December 14, 2013

This is the first year that Christmas preparations are not taking over my life. My husband and I need to spend the week with many doctors's appointments or procedures. Hence we sat down and talked about what really matters.

The appointments must come first. We chose to give cash gifts or provide gift cards to people close to us. I did some shopping on Amazon as my time was limited.

I could not attend gym classes, but went to the gym before/after appointments to use strength machines, the track, the cardio machines, and more. I worked out on my schedule. I stayed with 3 trainings per week even next week.

I cleaned out some cluttered areas and had my housekeeper help me get rid of some stuff. I made some meals and will make more to freeze for when we return from these appointments.

The bottom line is that I attended church (except in bad weather). I do the snow shoveling to make sure we can get out in an emergency. We are actually happier than falling prey to all the commercial trappings of Christmas.

I may plan a party to show thanks to all who have helped me (after the snow season!).

I stopped getting all caught up in Christmas obligations years ago. The stress was not worth it.

I have also done some online shopping to save time and have stuck with a lot of gift cards because of the hip. At least we know then they will be getting something they want, right? Sticking with the training is a good idea-I found it to be really important to have that appointment in order to stay on track with exercise which we all need for our health. Great job-keep up the great work!
