Deep breath...

Friday, December 13, 2013

Well, I made it to payday without overdrawing at the bank (although I'm sure I only had about twenty-three cents left). Now the cable and power bill are paid and the grocery delivery just arrived. Also, since I get two days off for Christmas, one tank of gas will do it for the pay period. So I've got food, warmth, transit and my connection to the world.

I decided something about Christmas. I am going to allow myself to have, without any guilt, two of my favorite foods, which I only have once or twice a year. I bought a wedge of Brie and some Triscuits. Also, I usually make roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for Christmas dinner. Since I'm going to be alone, I'm not going to make the roast (Yorkshire pudding is totally NOT up for discussion). Instead, I'm going to have it with a big, gorgeous medium-rare rib eye steak. A bone-in rib eye cooked medium rare is the food of the gods, IMHO, and (with due modesty) I'm a pretty terrific steak cook. So Christmas dinner will be steak and Yorkshire pudding, and I'm seriously looking forward to it.

As soon as I got the groceries I put the steak in the freezer so I wouldn't eat it tonight. Now...to leave the Brie alone until Christmas Eve...

Your CHRISTmas dinner sounds like it will be yummy!

We don't know what we will be having for our CHRISTmas dinner --- we will be eating it with our daughter & her husband. She is a great cook, so whatever she decides to make, it will be a hit with us.

I seldom have made Yorkshire pudding over our married life; however, I remember it well for meals as a child & from meals that we had at my folks home as adults. Not being much of a meat eater (& not at all as a child) the only good the meat did was make the pan drippings for the Yorkshire pudding! emoticon

God bless!

Congrats on having all the bills paid before Christmas! I wish I could say the same thing. emoticon The thought of having a steak for Christmas (or any time) sounds nice, but I'll probably do a chicken with no dressing and have the usual sides with it. emoticon

I have not decided my christmas menu yet, but will allow myself to not count calories, but do my best to behave. I will allow a small cup of light eggnog also. On thanksgiving I did the same. I had made a homemade apple pie, so I had to let myself have one slice with some light vanilla ice cream. I do love slow churned ice cream, as good as the full calorie stuff IMO. I am sure we will be doing ham, maybe some glazing, maybe some pineapple with it, probably rice or scalloped potatoes, some veggies, homemade rolls, and probably the sweet potato pie I bought on sale awhile ago, and have pulled from the freezer and made yet.

It's good to hear that the bills are paid, especially at this time of year. Enjoy your good food. It is hard to beat a great steak.

This is what I have to look forward to if anything happens to my hubby. It sounds not too bad to me but I do love watching Netflix with him as we have the same sense of humor and sometimes when my eyes leak tears I look over and they his eyes are leaking too. Go figure! The brie and triscuits sounds so good! I am not a good steak or roast cook.

That is Great that the bills are paid. I still have that dreaded land tax bill to pay before the end of the year. I am not doing much for Christmas, so I think I will be OK, too. Your Christmas dinner sounds GREAT!

Sounds like a good dinner to me. Relax and enjoy it. I don't think I could be that upbeat if I were spending Christmas by myself. On the other hand, sometimes the company of ourselves is the best we can have.
