My daughter shared something awesome with me. Her 9 year old daughter is involved with "Girls on the Run" for girls in school who want to learn about health and safety. It's a club. She loves it. They have healthy snacks during their time together and learn about nutrition. They also go out and run each meeting.
On Saturday they had their 5K, which I later found out Abi had wanted to invite me to run with her. She will invite me in the Spring and I can't wait to see her little body take on a 5K! She's as tiny as a 6-year old. Her mom, dad and 10 year old brother all took part. Mom and dad ran with her, and bro ran with his friends. There were people all along the path cheering them on. My daughter said that when Abi ran by one of the moms, the mom yelled out "I'm so proud of you! You're doing awesome!" There were girls from all grades with their families. Must've been an awesome event to witness. Abi was so in awe that she was a part of something "so big"
I'm so proud of her. My daughter said Abi had asked what lap they were on before they even passed the first one. She said wow this is hard! They walked and ran. Deanna said the amount they ran off and on was about one third of the 5K.
Deanna also told me that her and her hubby (who are trim build) had talked in August on their honeymoon that they'd like to do the couch to 5K. Now they are more seriously considering it. They were all very sore on Saturday night and Sunday. But what a great event for them to participate in as a family!
This is a first for anyone in our family! They handed out medals to each of the young participants and they all got tagged with a number 1. Would have loved a picture of this to share with you all. Next Spring I'll try to take a couple.
Abi is number one in my book! Go Abi!
