I've missed this place!

Monday, December 09, 2013

Wow, November was cray-cray-crazy, but I loved it. I wrote another book, Little Bear successfully learned 12 colors and now knows how to mix blue and yellow fingerpaint to make green, I didn't run AT ALL, managed to tick off family because I wanted to cook for Thanksgiving, did a bunch of mystery shopping, decided I wanted an iPhone but don't want to pay for a smart phone, finished up my classes for the year, got my mom hooked on a new mystery series, decided to just pretty much limit myself to one glass of wine per day, and managed to get the Christmas tree up before midnight on November 30th.

AND gained about 3 pounds. I know it's fat. I can see it. It's okay. I will lose it. I'm starting a new, more intense dance training regimen for December and January, and it's tough but it feels good. :) I wanted to run all week last week, but with the snow and ice and freezing rain, it wasn't a good idea.

This will be known as the year they cancelled Christmas, I swear. First our "Polar Express" train trip was cancelled for a tornado. (We got that rescheduled though.) Then the local university's Christmas Madrigal Feaste was cancelled outright, because the plows couldn't get through. They've cancelled all the events for a week at our favorite library because of snow issues, and two Christmas parties I was supposed to go to were also rescheduled for next week, which is making it look super busy.

All this over like four inches of snow. I hate Indiana.

In any case, I've got 10 cups of cubed turkey in the freezer, ready for soups, casseroles, and whatever else I want to make. I've got the turkey carcass out of the freezer and boiling on the stove for stock, and the plan is to have turkey veggie soup tonight and a turkey noodle casserole tomorrow. Not horribly low-fat (although the soup is) but homemade and delicious. I might make bread for Little Bear. Maybe a pumpernickel, with some honey butter if I can get Daddy to brave the roads and pick up some cream for me. Yummm! I also want to make a pumpkin cheesecake, since I didn't get around to making one for Thanksgiving. The hard part is finding room in the fridge for all this stuff!

Little Bear ate a popcorn ball for the first time at Halloween, and of course loved it. So he decided he had to eat the popcorn I was making for our little kitchen Christmas tree (it's short and skinny, and we just decorate it with pinecones, popcorn, and cranberries -- although we actually use plastic ones now since cranberries are SOOO hard to string!) Needless to say he wasn't crazy about the bland taste of unseasoned popcorn, so I promised him I'd learn how to make him actual sweet popcorn balls :) I guess we'll do that tonight. The things I do for that "mother of the year" award ... sheesh! :)

I found myself with some extra Kohl's cash yesterday, so I got a new cold-weather running outfit. Now if I can just find crampons, or shoes with spikes in them that allow me to run on the 5 layers of ice on our roads. Sigh. I miss it. Running up and down the halls at home just doesn't cut it.

My intention is to be much more regular here, and to try to lose another particular set amount of weight. I have a goal, but I'm also not going to get too crazy if I don't lose it as fast as I want. Christmas means lots of homemade food in the house, which is kind of hard to measure. I'll settle for not GAINING over the holidays!

    Good blog!
I also have cut up turkey in the refrigerator. Soup sounds like a good idea although DH would prefer anything with pasta in it!!!

Glad to see you are back! I have to say I really hate this wintry weather. All I want to do is run, but I can't. It's a real bummer.

Yak Trax, I think that's what they're called. For running on icy roads.
Wow you're busy!

Missed you and delighted to see you back with us. Sounds like you and Little Bear are having fun. Be careful on the ice. We've been under 20 degrees for a week in Denver - not much snow, but COLD! Take good care of yourself and keep smiling! emoticon
