My siblings and I had a very small party for my parents yesterday to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. We had planned it for a few months and of course, whenever you plan any event in the winter in Minnesota, you better be prepared for bad roads, snow storms or furnaces going out.
My parents live about 70 miles away so the plan was for my brothers and sister and their kids to all be here about an hour before my parents were going to arrive. Well, my Mom calls me at 930a and says, our furnace isn't working and it is only 40 degrees in the house and we have called the company to come and fix it but there are others in line with the same problem.
Well that certainly was a little wrench in our plan! My Sister and Brother also live about 70 miles away so I quick texted them to let them know of the delay.
With a furnace out, would the party have to be cancelled? delayed? rescheduled????
My SIL had made a huge pan of lasagna that she was going to cook when she got here.
So at 11, I called my parents to see what was happening. Their furnace had begun to work again. So they were leaving right at that moment.
More frantic texts to all my siblings to quick leave and to try to get here first.
Such was not to happen. My brother that lives close to us made it before my parents, but not my other siblings. They arrived about 20 minutes after so the surprise was not quite as we had hoped plus my SIL did not have time to cook the lasagna so I had to open my fridge to see what else we could serve!
Plenty of food is always to be found in our house thank goodness and I decided to just not worry about that part and to enjoy the fact that we were honoring our parents and the happy memories we all had growing up and the happy memories that we are still making!
Here are just a few pictures of the happy event. My treadmill is to big to be moved so it is in the background folded up!
The happy couple
The party room.
The beautiful frame that we ordered for them.
Plenty of food regardless of the little snafu.
My SIL that I gave all my clothes to, to keep or give away.
We all ended up having a wonderful time and it was a total surprise since their anniversary was in Jun, but since they travel and bike all of the US until October, we planned it for now.
Thanks for stopping by and celebrating with all of us!
