Observations from the treadmill

Saturday, December 07, 2013

Those of you who have read my blogs through other Winters know I am NOT a cold / slick outdoor running fan. That's what treadmills were created for. I did get out and do a few minor errands, and the new coat was toasty. Once I did those two or three things, I stayed inside, watching old DVD's, and doing some cleaning. I popped in one of my favorite classics: Chariots of Fire. You also know from long readership that I can't just sit there while the runners are running on screen... so I did some intervals during the movie.

Observation: 6 miles an hour is an easy jog (10 minute miles). It didn't USED to be. I allowed myself to think back about the process of becoming fit, and the process of maintaining that fitness. One does need to keep up the activity, or the cross training or something. It wasn't easy... but as those of you sharing the journey know... it sure is worth it!

Tomorrow's workout may well be sponsored by Mother Nature, as they are telling me 2-4 inches of the white stuff before nightfall tomorrow.

And it is HOT VEGGIE time of year... I oven-roasted cauliflower as a special treat food for myself.

Hoping all my Spark buds are safe and warm! LIFE is good. Spark on. emoticon

It is so bitter cold here it is ridiculous. It was 8 this morning, and wet to 21 but I couldn't tell. I am definitely an outdoor cardio person and need a good "job" that I love...today we cut down trees and stacked the trees in piles in the woods of our property...I would like to have a treadmill for really bad days but don't want to give up the floor space for one...wish I could find a small elliptical or something.

Stay warm and safe, Barb, I think it is going to be a LLLLOOOOOOONNNG winter! emoticon

Very cold here too: and no snow to speak of. So I'll be heading to the gym and the elliptical and the weights!!

I have cauliflower in the fridge. Not sure if it is going to be roasted or made into soup. Maybe it'll be both. LOL. We'll see what happens with the kitchen muse.

Since plantar faciitis set in, I have become one with my elliptical again. I would much rather be out running but for now, this is what I need to do. I realized the other day that it went up to level nine and while a bit of a challenge, it didn't feel like I was trying to walk through a wall like it did three years ago. It was a beautiful moment.

I LOVE your coat!

emoticon It's great when we notice the improvements. My home machine is an elliptical. 15 minutes used to be enough for me. Now I aim for 30 minutes. I read yesterday that Nelson Mandela used to run on the spot for 45 minutes every day when he was in prison. Use it or lose it, whichever way you can.

You must be living near me. Days like this make me glad for Richard Simmons.

So funny to read you stayed indoors while MOBYCARP was outdoors.
I'm with you, I hate feeling cold!

I'd love to get an elliptical! For now my mom's stationary bike is serving it's purpose for me anyway. (It hasn't seen much use from my mom.)

The coat looks super toasty! I've layered on my runs prior to this cold snap and had some luck. Glove is difficult so I've been trying to see if my big mittens helps.

Stay warm and keep at it!

A friend gave me a treadmill early in the year. I may have logged an hour on it and didn't like that. Judith on the other hand loves it because she can fit in a mile or two whenever without killing a big block of the day. Now that winter is imminent, I may have to adapt to using it. There's no question the treadmill is a great tool.

Walked outdoors 10 minutes this morning, but that was enough. The rest of the day was on the dreadmill and used my stepper too.

HUGS and stay warm. We're cold here too and expecting the snow tomorrow night into Monday.

I agree with staying inside when it is cold. Southern CA is chilly today, but warmer than most other states. I am so glad that I do not have to deal with the snow. Stay safe and warm.

I would guess we will both be friends with a shovel in the morning, or at least sometime during the day. Enjoy the cauliflower. HUGS!

No snow accumulation here today, and last week's snow finished melting off yesterday. Just in time for cold enough weather, and soon enough we'll have it on the ground again. Meanwhile, we had the perfect snow today - a bit in the air to be refreshing and seasonal, with no annoying slick spots under foot.

Well it snowed several inches here and I did my errands in it later in the day after a bit of work. We are 7 degrees tonight and that won't make working tomorrow any better.

Yes once you get there you have to work at keeping there.
