Prepare for the freeze!

Thursday, December 05, 2013

We do get cold weather here in the Valley of the Sun, but it usually comes late in January or more likely in February! However, the artic cold front is hitting here, too, though not as bad as the rest of you. With freezing temps forecast for tonight, we had to cover the vegetable garden.

with the porch light off...

My pepper and jalapeno plants have been doing so well, and my squash plants just started producing, so I hope everything survives!

And yes, those are our Christmas lights under the sheets and plastic! We don't have our tree up yet, but the garden is sure colorful!

The light help to keep them warmer too, under the plastic. I too had to cover plants and trees. I have a strawberry plant that I have had for 4 years now and it currently has 9 berries on it, in different stages of growth. I ate one yesterday. I pick, I eat, well I wash them first. I like affect of the lights too. You do uncover them in the morning right??

It looks like your plants have there own little fire to keep them warm under the covers. Hope they all survive the cold spell.
