I knew it would come. I just didn't know it would start with such a vengeance!
Winter is most definitely here. When I left for work Tuesday morning, it was a pretty much normal December day - cool, a little snow on the ground. By the afternoon a mix of snow and freezing drizzle had started. I went from work to help a friend paint winter scenery for display at a local landmark. It was 10 p.m. when I was on the road home. The roads weren't too bad.
The weather deteriorated by Wednesday, and by the time I went home the two-day snow total was approximately 15 inches. Forecasters said we could get another 5-8 inches overnight.
The phone rang at 6 a.m. this morning letting us know that school had been cancelled. I wondered how bad it was outside, and when I looked out there was only a little over an inch of on my car. The shock came when I went outside and was greeted by a freezing wind. the temperature had dropped to 2 degrees below zero and winds were gusting at about 20 mph. Crawling back into my warm bed sounded like a very good idea, but I had to get to the office. School was cancelled due to plows not being able to get to all the county roads in time for buses to get through.
The cold is expected to hand out through the weekend, so my plans are to stay indoors and get some Christmas decorating done.
