I had to get mom to a nursing home. She fell 4 times in one week. Her dementia was getting worse in the last few months. I was hearing complaints for people in her apartment complex. She didn't seem to know what day it was and if it was morning or night so she wasn't eating right or taking her meds right. I took her to her doctor that confirmed she was at a stage that required care then she fell again. This time I spoke with DSHS about getting help and they told me to refuse to take her home again. Which I did. The hospital went to work to get her into a nursing home, the doctor worked on getting her into a nursing home and DSHS helped to get her into a home. So now she's at the best one in the county. She never wanted to be in one so she's been very angry with me. I just keep going back for visits and after a couple of weeks of anger she seemed to be starting to accept it. She was even joking about it and said she was sorry I had to go thru all this. She has fallen a few times at the nursing home but help is right there.....she doesn't have to drag herself across the floor and pound on the walls for help, spending the night on the floor like she did. She's eating good, regular meals and getting her meds as prescribed so she's in a little better shape. She's even started making friends that she likes to see and visit with. This is me sighing a huge sigh of relief.
