Running down a dream

Wednesday, December 04, 2013

Ive been running lately. I lost the dance classes I loved so much by moving 50 miles away. My new gym has Zumba. It's fun, but not the same and my schedule is not super compatible with the class schedule. So, I've been putting in some time on the treadmill, starting over with the C25K program.

It's amazing how much easier it is to run now that I'm 60+ pounds lighter. When I did C25K the first time, I did the walking intervals at 3.5 and the running intervals at 4.0. Now I'm walking at 4.0 and running at 5.0. I'd like to work up to 5.5 over the course of the program and hopefully be running a 12 minute mile by the end of it. My goal is to run my first 12 minute mile by the startof the new year and to run a 5k in 36 minutes or less in 2014. My first 5k in 2010 took me just over 45 minutes.

Running is not my favorite, so I aspire to still take Zumba on the weekends. I'm hoping these goals will keep me excited and motivated. Plus, as mentioned above, running is not quite so bad with less weight to haul.

WOW! I have never been a runner until I started jogging last spring. Walking at 3.5 and jogging at 4 is what I used to do too. But, alas, it is not to be for me. Right now it makes my hips hurt just to think of running! I bet you are going to like it a lot better now. Have you signed up for any races yet?

Just being motivated to move faster and to beat an old 5k time should really help you to accomplish your goals!

One of my goals is to do The Color Run next year. Great job on your fast intervals! You will be up to 5.5 in no time!

Huge congrats! You are taking charge and it sounds like you are doing well. Sorry about the dance class - hopefully something will pop. Up!

Good for you! I tried C25K and ended up with hip problems, so haven't run since. But I think I tried to go too fast, so when I try again, I will try to keep to 5 mph when running. I felt so exhilarated when I did it... Would love to try Zumba, but the classes are not compatible with my schedule either! I hope you are able to make it on the weekends. doing something fun to work out makes it easier to keep going!
