I just read a Secret of Success where the author wrote how when she was a child and playing outside, she didn't like to come inside to eat and felt like it was a chore. Here's a link to her Secret of Success
She is onto something. I am an emotional eater and I find myself eating more food (and junk) when I'm alone or bored and before I know it, I've eaten a lot of calories without even noticing what I've done. I have to get myself into the mindset of "eat to live", not "live to eat".
My first step is to stop eating my lunch (I'm alone at lunch during the week) in front of the computer or tv. I usually like a little bit of noise so have the tv turned on during my lunch. What I can do instead is set a plate at the kitchen table, and eat there with the radio turned on like we do at supper time.
Since I am a runner and am trying to keep my body trained for 5 and 10k races, with an occasional half marathon in the mix, I need to keep my body properly fuelled. I am going to have to start looking at food as "fuel" for my body. Just like a car, you have to put good fuel into a car to keep it running smoothly and efficiently, so I should treat my body. Fill by body with good fuel to keep it strong and healthy.
