Back to running - looking for some good events in 2014

Monday, December 02, 2013

Today I ran a simple four-mile road-run. There was a strong wind on the uphill stretch so I got a good workout before being blown back into town!

This is actually the third run I've managed to string together in a week, so I am getting back on track, so to speak. I'd actually stopped running from July on due to a double hernia that required surgery in late August. Between recovery time and a too full workload I didn't run until early November, although I was doing strength training (dumbbells) from late Sept. onward. Anyhow, I have knocked most of the rust off and regained enough form and fitness for the running to start to be a lot of fun again. Now to keep it up throughout the winter... emoticon

I'm aiming to be at 10k to half-marathon form by spring. This year I have decided to pass on the Snake River HM, which I have done twice, and use the entry fee for a new run or two yet to be determined. I'm hearing about more events in the Inland NW and I'd like to see some new sites and meet some new people. Any suggestions for events you've enjoyed, both road and trail running, are welcome.

I would be interested to hear what races you decide on. I'm in Boise and did Robie Creek this year, but undecided on whether I'll do it again in 2014. Haven't really looked into what's available in eastern OR/WA.
