Weird Masked Running Stranger

Saturday, November 30, 2013

This morning Hubby and I went on our morning walk. We had not walked very long when we came across a young, fit, man jogging towards us at a rapid pace. He was dressed all in black, his head included. He had a black mask covering his head except for his eyes. *()*^*&(&^*^ !!!

My dear heart was pounding.
Dear hubby didn't notice.
The man was carrying a long wooden polished sword with the tip sharpened to a point, in his hand. GASP.

I felt a bit weirded out, it was creepy.
I commented to DH about the weirdness of the situation. I was wondering if we should leave.

We turned around to walk towards the car as where we walked there are not very many people around.

On the way back towards the car we could see the young man standing on a dirt hill dashing in and out of the trees swinging the sword. It was kind of like something you would see out of a movie.

Walk done. Witnessed one Vampire hunter or some other form of weirdness.

weird but doesn't surprise me! my niece is a graphic novelist and would love to be able to run around in costumes. Luckily, she gets her chance at the yearly Comic-con in NY. seems like your mystery character needs some buddies!

When I was a kid, my brother and I would make fencing swords out of coat hangers and can tops. We'd have sword fights like in the movies (Think Errol Flynn). And if we could have, I have no doubt that we'd have dressed the part. That said, it's still scary in this day and age to come upon someone dressed that way carrying a sword. We expect people to do their roll playing on the Web. I don't blame you for getting out of there.

Every time I think I've heard it all, something like this happens. Let's see, possible scenarios:
Practicing Ninja &/or vampire hunter (minor nutter)
Psychology student checking out people's reactions
Major Nutter
Serial killer
One of those live action gamers, early for the game

In most of these cases, I'd have quickly left the area and possibly called the police.
Glad you're safe! Now you have a good "can you believe this?" story.

When I worked at a large university campus, weird incidents happened frequently, and usually proved to be psychology student experiments. They were studying bystanders' reactions (pre-Candid Camera days). The world has changed so much since then, that I think I would have been freaked out by this and not silently amused as I used to be watching the antics in the 1960's.

Oh wow, I would've scared me too, with my heart pounding. He could've had mental illness even and who know what he was acting out. I would've gotten back in my car and called the police. I'm so glad that you and DH are ok, safe and sound. Let us know if anyone else had trouble, ok? Interesting to know if it was all fake or something really to be scared of?

It is at least weird at worst dangerous as he might mistake a person as being what he seeks, did you notify the police so they may be on the lookout for him?

  Me again. A Vampire Hunter?

He should see my ol' Sweetie. My ol' Sweetie has this thing for Dark Shadows. He has a Barnabas Collins coat with the cape over the shoulders, and he has the cane with the wolf/dog head. Even if it's a little bit over the top I have to say he looks neat in it, and he goes out dressed that way. I take this old geezer to his doctor appointments all doodled up in his coat and cane.

I wonder what the fellow with the face covering and sword would have done.

I don't have a wooden sword, but I do have one of those ski masks or whatever they are, knitted that cover the entire head except for eyes and mouth. It's black. I used to have a high visibility orange blaze one which I wore a few times on my farmette in NY State while I was shoveling snow along the road. I don't think I have that one any more.

All I have is this black one. It was COLD today, and I had a notion to walk to Curves and wear the thing. But I thought I might scare people, so I drove to Curves instead.

It does sound bizarre creepy. I would have been fearful too, especially as he didn't pause and let you know what the heck he was up to, to set your mind at ease.

You certainly have interesting walks!
