Aldis closes for all major holidays. Such as Thanksgiving. The following morning they have marked down perishables such as meat, dairy, and anything with an expiration date like pumpkin pie. At the first Aldi's I went to this morning, they had not one single mark down. They did have $1.59 blackberries, which I quickly got and left.
I was amazed about no meat marked down so I even checked the store hours on my way out, to see if they had opened earlier. Nope; no change in store hours, and I was there one minute after opening.
At the second Aldi's store, which I arrived at 45 mins after opening, the only mark down they had was 2 pkgs steak, marked down $5 off ea pkg. I got the 2 pkgs steak, organic lettuce, another extension cord (3-prong with a really good price for ministorage), mini colored peppers, lunchmeat, and Brussels sprouts. I intentionally chose a higher amp cord at Walmart yesterday, but the Aldi's price was unbeatable for 2 amps less, and will give me more options.
Here is my deal on the Angus sirloin steak:
($7.50 + $7.95) - $10.00 mark down = $5.45 for 2 pkgs
1.67 lbs + 1.77 lbs = 3.44 lbs
$5.45 divided by 3.44 lbs = $1.58 per lb
$1.58 lb is a good deal, but in years past I always had a choice of 5 or so different kinds of lean protein and several dairy discounts. At checkout, the cashier said of my steak pkgs, "Oh!! I did NOT see those this morning!" I believe she would have snagged them if she'd seen them. So maybe that's why I didn't find any at the first store. December 26th is the next post-holiday date to remember for Aldis bargains, tho if you check regularly immediately at opening time, they regularly have mark downs throughout the year.
BLACK FRIDAY PHILOSOPHY
Black Friday and me? Um no, not so much; not a fan, not even when I had $ to spend. It sounds like someone died, instead of a happy occasion. Remember the MOST money you will ever save is by NOT buying it to begin with! And as one SparkFriend said, "I already have enough or too much stuff". Yeppers!
Other than Aldi's, about the only other way I, personally, do Black Friday is online, and even then very very limited as I have practically no money. Necessities, instead of wants or toys. Speaking of online . . .
EBATES FOR ONLINE SHOPPING
I learned about Ebates for the first time this year, and I LOVE them. There are more than 1,600 online stores associated with Ebates, including all the big box stores and many department stores. I will never buy anything off Amazon, Ebay, Puritan supplements, or VitaCost supplements again without using Ebates. And when my Bali bra goes on sale in January at Just My Size.com, and when I order Franklin Covey planner refills for 2014, I will definitely be using Ebates to buy them! During Black Friday, 500 online stores have double Ebates. www.ebates.com
