1. MOST HOLIDAY FOODS DURING THANKSGIVING WERE NOT CONSUMED BY THE PILGRIMS & NATIVE AMERICANS.
2. SARAH JOSEPHA HALE, A COOKBOOK, AND MAGAZINE WRITER HAD TURKEY DINNERS FEATURED IN HER EARLY ARTICLES IN LADIES MAGAZINES. SHE LOBBIED FOR OVER 17 YEARS TO POLITICANS, & EVENTUALLY CONVINCING PRESIDENT LICOLN THANKSGIVING NEEDS TO BE A NATIONAL HOLIDAY, TO CELEBRATE BEING THANKFUL, & TO GIVE BACK. THANKSGIVING WAS ESTABLISHED ON OCT.3,1863.
3.T.V. DINNERS WERE INVENTED, WHEN THEY RAN OUT OF TURKEYS FOR DINNER, THEN PUT LEFTOVERS INTO ONE PLATE TO HEAT.
4.BENJAMIN FRANKLIN'S PREFERENCE FOR THE NATIONAL BIRD WAS THE WILD TURKEY, BECAUSE IT WAS A NATIVE WITH A PROUD DEMEANOR & PROTECTIVE INSTINCT. YET THE BALT EAGLE IS MORE OF A SCAVENGER & WILL ROB OTHER BIRDS & ANIMALS FOR PREY.
5. WILD TURKEYS CAN RUN 20 MILES PER HOUR, & TOP SPEED IS 55 PER HOUR.
6. DOMESTICS CANNOT FLY, OR BEARLY RUN BECAUSE OF THE BREADING FOR ITS' FOOD.
7. WILD TURKEYS LIKE TO SLEEP IN TREES.
8. THEIR GOBBLE CAN BE HEAR FOR UP TO A MILE AWAY.
9. THEIR VISION IS 3 TIMES BETTER THAN HUMANS' DURING DAY TIME, BUT POOR AT NIGHT.
10. THEY CAN DROWN IF THEY LOOK UP WHEN IT'S RAINING.
11. THEIR BALD HEAD & FLESHY FACIAL WATTLES CAN CHANGE COLOR IN SECONDS. WHEN EXCITED OR EMOTIONAL IT CHANGES FROM RED, PINK, WHITE, OR BLUE.
12. TURKEYS CAN HAVE HEART ATTACKS! WHEN THE AIR FORCE CONDUCTED TEST RUNS & BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER. THEY FOUND FIELDS OF TURKEYS WOULD DROP DEAD.
13. EUROPEANS BROUGHT THEM BACK TO THE NEW COLONYS. THEY WERE FIRST DOMESTICATED IN MEXICO.
14. BECAME ALMOST EXTINCT IN 1930.
15. ONLY 2 STATES ARE WITHOUT AN EXTENSIVE WILD TURKEY POPULATION (ALASKA & HAWAII).
16. YOU CAN TELL THE SEXUALITY OF A TURKEY, BY ITS DROPPINGS. THE ROUND CIRCLE IS A MALE, WHILE A J SHAPE IS THE FEMALE.
17. MALES ARE CALLED TOMS, WHILE FEMALES ARE HENS.
YOUNG BIRDS ARE POULTS.
WHILE JUVENILE MALES ARE JAKES, AND FEMALES ARE JENNIES.
A GROUP IS CALLED A RAFTER OR A FLOCK.

    #10 is probably more about domestic turkeys. I've seen lots of wild turkeys in the rain and none of them were dumb enough to look up and drown. However, domestic turkeys have been known to die after they pile up in corners of their pens after being panicked by thunder. Like you said, they've been bred for so much breast meat they're too heavy. All boobs, no brains!
I had cousins who ran a turkey ranch.
