Happy Day before Thanksgiving

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

It's chilly, wet and gloomy here in Pennsylvania. Really missing my sunshine. It's going to be weird this year for me as I am not responsible for cooking the turkey. My step son loves to cook and has made up a brine for the bird and will do the cooking. What a treat for me. I can't remember the last time I didn't cook a turkey. I took over cooking turkey when I first got my first home. My Mom never liked to cook so I ended up having the big meals at my place. But I loved it and liked to cook. I used to go to my Grannie's house to learn how to cook. She was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania and grew up cooking for farm hands so she knew how to make wonderful things. Unfortunately they were heavy with all the butter, cream and such. The only thing I am responsible for is the mashed potatoes so I will do them with heavy cream and all as it's only one day. I have planned activities for the grandkids to keep them out of the way.

I feel sorry for my DIL as she started asking her father and his wife for Thanksgiving like 2 weeks ago and he still hasn't answered her. He is a very thoughtless guy and actually hasn't seen his grandchildren is over a year. I know it hurts my DIL. But how inconsiderate it is to not even let her know. And I thought I had problems with my family....Geez, family.....I wasn't even asked to stop in or anything at my sister's where she will have my mother and her boyfriend. which is good as then I don't have to go there, etc. I will be spending Thanksgiving with my Step son, DIL, two grandchildren, DH and his ex-wife. I think next year we will go back to staying in Mexico and cooking a turkey for the neighbors. that is always fun.

Hope you all are having a great day and getting ready for the big day tomorrow.

I am thankful for so very much!
Cheers
Sallie

Oh my, not even your DIL is free from rude family members :(( You will, at least, have the people surrounding you that really matter.
Hope you all have a wonderful time!

I so miss not being with my family over the holidays.....I do have to spend it with my MIL that is a challenge for me and I keep my mouth shut when there as it is my Hubbys mom. I am totally not what she wanted for him (but no one would pease her) and we have been together 35 years and that really upsets her as she has no control over her son

Most all of us have to choose not to blow a fuse over something some family member does or has done. You do it with class, Sallie. Your compassion is easily seen! Make more memories for those precious grandchildren.

Excluding the ex being there, sounds like a much nicer place to be with son, DIL and the grand kids. Enjoy the day and the good food.

I give divorced couples credit when they can get along for the sake of the childr and grandchildren. I never had that, but my son and the Mother of his son do get along, but her Mother cannot stand my son (large part of the divorce). My ex-dil wanted a new kitchen, so my son redid her kitchen and saved a ton of money.

I could not handle the weather you are experiencing now. It is even suppose to get to freezing here tonight, which is very unusual and start warming on Friday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

I wasn't even asked to stop in or anything at my sister's where she will have my mother and her boyfriend. which is good as then I don't have to go there, etc. -- what is there to say. You are spending time with the ones you love and who love you. That's what it's all about. Family! UGH

HUGS and hope it's a wonderful holiday.

As annoying as family can be - enjoy your time with them, make good memories etc.
Next year you'll be in the sun with friends and neighbours, they will miss you this year!
