Seven Pounds off in Seven Days and I am thankful

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Thanksgiving is the time for giving thanks, and I am so grateful. A year ago, I felt a lot of despair at times because I worked so hard to lose weight and wasn't getting the results that should have come with it. I've just lost seven pounds in seven days on a green juice fast, which continues, and I've lost something like 50 pounds so far this year.

And this weight off is weight that is never coming back. I feel so much better.

As it happened, I needed to go through my closet and do some serious decluttering. So part of my way of showing thanks and gratitude is to bag up four giant bags of clothes today, all for charity, and I plan to continue that effort tomorrow.

My husband and I are having a quiet, romantic Thanksgiving together, and I am continuing juicing. Decluttering is part of my weight loss journey, but I must admit that I have long delayed going through the bags at the bottom of my closet.

When I get tired of the dust and figuring out what goes, what stays, it helps me to think of those who might want these clothes that I haven't worn in ages or are now too big for me. Actually I have bought very few items of clothing recently. Most of these are clothes that I kept, thinking I would wear them some day. All most of these clothes did is take up space. Now someone else will get the chance to enjoy them.

The second round coming tomorrow is harder. I have to really hone in on what I need to keep in my life and what I need to release. Do I really need that many t-shirts? Am I really going to wear that outfit that got dusty?

Sometimes the hard part is wondering if I will need it some day. Other times I feel bad there is something with tags on it that I never wore. Other times I disliked the clothes but felt I had to keep them until I was too thin to possibly wear them. So the first four giant bags are a relief.

I love having more space and making room for new opportunities and experiences in my life. Not to mention the fact that I will soon be down another size and will need even fewer of these clothes. In fact, I know that some day soon nearly everything in my closet will be gone. I'll be too slim for nearly anything in there.

Decluttering means I get a new wardrobe just by discover the several pairs of jeans that now fit me, several other items. It's great that I discovered my two favorite sweaters from last year, too. I'll need them in this really cold weather.

At a time of Thanksgiving, I'm truly grateful. And juicing is not a sacrifice for me at Thanksgiving. My treat will be carrot ginger juice. I've reached the point where I'm not hungry often and I actually have no craving for any type of food this moment. Although I do love having the carrot ginger juice each day.

My main meal is usually dino kale, celery, cucumber, ginger, and a small green apple. The Mean Green. If I have cilantro, said to detox heavy metals, I toss that in, too. I put in a lot more kale than listed in most recipes and I'm over generous on the ginger as well.

My husband is having a traditional Thanksgiving meal and I have my green juice planned. I didn't expect to feel this way, but I don't feel at all deprived. (I'll be off the green juice fast reboot for the next holiday.) I average about a pound off a day during the fast, and I also detox, get healthier, and much better.

I'm so grateful to finally see the progress on my weight loss and health journey. For me, juicing was the one thing that seriously worked for me for weight loss And I've kept the weight off. And recently I had a small health scare that turned out fine. I feel like juicing really helped me to get that good health result.

I used to really dread decluttering the closet, but now I'm getting to like it better all the time. I still have the challenge of working with very limited space in a humble city abode, but I love having more space and being able to find some of my clothes quicker.

Thanksgiving is such a great time of year because each of us can think of all which makes us thankful. It is a time for gratitude.

Addendum: I should note that I am healing well from a knee injury but it limits what type of workout I do. At this time, I often do Kundalini yoga from dvd, take a long walk, or sometimes do a half hour of cardio from a dvd. I have to modify many types of workouts to protect knees.

This blog was so wonderful to read. As an avid juicer it makes me smile to see another juicer enjoy the many qualities of their recipes.

One time I accidentally bought what I thought was parsley and put it in my carrot juice. (I hate cilantro) And what was it? Cilantro!!! OMG it tasted like soap in my mouth! YUCK!!! emoticon LOL

Did I tell you that because of green juice I no longer have cataracts in my eyes? And, my eyesight drastically improved to 20/15 vision with my new prescription? Amazing stuff.

Congratulations on all your wonderful wins! You've been patient and it's paying off.
