Dish looks like a job for Superman!
For whose use was the bowler hat originally designed?
English gamekeepers (game wardens), who had previously worn top hats on the job. The low-crowned bowler, hardened with shellac, was intended to protect gamekeepers from low-hanging branches when they patrolled their employers’ estates on horseback. It was named for brothers Thomas and William Bowler, who designed it in 1849.
Doctor Who premiered on England’s BBC One on November 23, 1963. It’s been on the air ever since (though new episodes weren’t produced between 1989 and 2005), making it by far the longest-running science-fiction program on television. With 770 episodes and counting, it’s among the longest-lasting prime-time dramas as well. In the 1970s, it was one of the first British series to air on American TV and became a cult hit. And in England, it’s a pop-culture phenomenon—it’s spawned radio series, novels, stage plays, and feature films.
First TV show with an electronic music theme: Dr. Who.
