3 am snafu...

So... last night kind of fell apart at 3 am. I was having terrible insomnia and still wide awake. I had last eaten at 8 pm, so I hadn't had any food in 7 hours. I stood up to go get some water, and when I stood I was so weak and shaky I almost collapsed. I know, rather dramatic, but my body REALLY doesn't deal well with extended periods of no food. Blood sugar problems and what not. So, obviously I needed to eat something, pronto. What I did not need to do was eat a sandwich... then 2 trail mix bars... then a banana with peanut butter... after the banana with pb, I got a hold of myself and said "WTF AM I DOING???" I stopped eating at that point. I was no longer shaky and felt better, other than the intense frustration with myself for going off the deep end like that. But rather than dwell on it, I'm taking a lesson from it -- if I am still awake at the 5 hr mark after my last meal, I will eat a small snack. It would have been MUCH better to have eaten a small snack at 5 hrs than half the kitchen at 7 hrs. I didn't want to consume calories I didn't have to spare, but on nights that my insomnia is kicking my @ss, I'm gonna have to give myself a break and feed my body before I reach the point of weak, shaky and ravenous. So... lesson learned!

Finally around 4 am, I fell asleep... and popped wide awake again at 7:45 am when dh came home. Most of the time I hear him come in, say "Good morning", and go right back to sleep. But not today, no siree, not today. I was wide awake. So I got up and hung out with him for a while, waiting for it to be time for the Verizon store to open. I was gonna pick up my new phone today. My plan had not, however, been to be there when they opened. I was thinking more along the lines of... mid afternoon. But, my body had other ideas, as it often does.

Leaving the house during McD's breakfast hours was dangerous. I navigated the danger and came out the other side, though. I got an Egg White Delight and hash brown, which amounted to 400 calories. That's about what I am for at breakfast. The important part is that I ONLY had that. I've been known to eat 2 or 3 breakfast sandwiches and a hash brown, but I stuck to my guns.

Then I got to Verizon and got to spend some quality time sitting on the bench waiting. I thought that getting there 10 minutes after opening would get me in and out fast. Wrong! There were already several people ahead of me, and not nearly enough people working. But eventually I did get my phone and get out of there. And it was worth it, I'm in love with my new phone. Because one of the most important features of a phone is the camera, I took this..



That's my buddy Beto doing his best to come between me and my laptop. He doesn't like that it gets so much attention.

I had assumed I would take a nap this afternoon... wrong again. I tried, and failed. So I got up and cleaned the kitchen, dining room and living room, and cooked dinner. We had mixed beans, shredded hash browns and spinach for dinner, and it was tastier than it had any right to be. I got the beans just right today, if I do say so myself. It was hard to have a 1 cup limit after I tasted them. I stuck to it, though, and measured everything else, too.

After dinner I made some Christmas cards and got them ready to mail. Now it is time to relax with some Christmas music {Jewel's new Christmas album = AWESOME} and a magazine. Hope everyone has had a fabulous Friday!

    That must have been scary for you!! But as everyone has already commented lesson learned. I had a episode like that when I first got diagnosed and was on Glypiizide. I ate breakfast early and then got intensely focused on work and forgot to eat lunch. By 2 PM 8 hours after having breakfast I started to feel shaky and light headed and my BS was 45. It is a very scary feeling!! Thankfully the Glypizide was discontinued by my doctor very soon after that. I hope you had a better night last night without the insomnia!!

Your cat is such a cutie!!! We only have dogs as m hubby is highly allergic to cats. The dogs bother his asthma a bit but not as much as cats do. So when I want my cat fix I go see my friend's cat. Very sweet tempered but one of the fattest cats I have ever seen.

    Things happen, unfortunately. A lot. But at least you did realize what you were doing and stopped yourself instead of continuing until you're ready to barf. That's definitely a good thing. And by the way, I LOVE your cat! So cute! And that picture just says "pet me, human". Lol. Adorable.

    My go-to snack i usually i fit-n-active mozzarella stick from Aldi.50 calories and the protein delays any reaction.. I keep a glucerna shake at work and sometimes have one at home...

    I still say its too early for Christmas Music. Luckily we don't get Radio signal out here, so we only hear what we play ourselves, i will not play my Christmas playlist untill December 1st. then it is open season for Christmas music on the Bridge.

We have to Decorate for the Other Crew before we leave too which i always find enjoyable.

Sorry to hear about the middle of the night food fest, but i can understand the sudden crash after a long gap without eating. If my Breakfast is delayed too long in the morning, i am not only a ravenous beast, but also a little bit of a raving lunatic. It's really quite scary. It'll come together for you.

    As you said, "lesson learned", of course with most lessons it was a hard way! Glad you were able to get your new phone and take a picture of Beto demanding your attention! Already a local radio station is playing Christmas songs! I do hope insomnia does not keep you up until the way middle of the night, you accomplished a lot today and your mind and body need a good night of rest!

    Wow, you had quite a day and learned a good lesson in the night. You now know how often you should eat. I'm glad you got your new phone. I LOVE the pic of your cat. I LOVE white cats!!! You are so lucky to have one. Hope you get a good nights sleep tonight!
