Paleo - Day 2

If you've never heard of the Paleo Diet, you should check it out: . It is said to work by mimicking the diet of our cave people ancestors. I don't know if I believe all that, but I do know that it has worked for a lot of people and I hope it works for me.

The premise is that you rule out anything grainy, dairy, or sugary (processed). I already have a partial aversion to dairy, but I feel saddened that I won't be having any cheese for the next month. I am DEVESTATED that I won't be having Starbucks.

The first 30 days is called "the 30 day reset" (Paleo for Dummies). In that time on top of the regular guidelines you cannot use honey and you have to follow it 100%. Following the first 30 days it's basically an 80/20 on/off rule.

Day one was pretty good - no mess ups. It's hard for me to not be concerned with calories, so I felt a little guilty on the amount that I ate. I added some extra nuts before bed because I felt hungry.

Today, I was off from work and it has felt much harder! I think it's because I have less distractions (and maybe because the sugar monster is getting desperate)! I want to get some exercise in, but I'm sick and it's hard to breathe (excuses on day 2).

I'm getting ready to start dinner - steak and grilled zucchini - yum!

    Hi! I am "kind of" doing this- not Paleo specifically, but higher-fat, no-grain, moderate-carb, moderate-protein. I won't give up cheese. But I gave up sugary coffee years ago and only have a touch of milk (with some fat of course; I've always thought skim was a scam!)
I am also doing zucchini tonight! With leftover turkey breast.

For me, the sugar monster only comes out when I invite him in with a dabble with white flour or commercial milk chocolate or something horrendous. emoticon
As long as I sate him with avocado or meat or something he seems to stay asleep.

    I have a great Aunt(in law) who is on the paleo diet and it has helped her immensely with health and energy levels!!

  I do have a lot of personal issues with this diet, but being strangers (obviously) you wouldn't want to hear about them... but I just happened to read this that a friend had linked on facebook and I think it sums up what the negative issues are to not just the Paleo diet but many diets- it 'cherry picks' the data to sell the diet. I mean, when you read about ANY diet (well, maybe not like the cabbage soup diet, anyone should be able to assume that's going to be trouble from the get-go!) it sound amazing based on the research and positive testimonials...
