We have had some warm weather here in central Minnesota and I was able to extend my efforts in getting some of the yard projects done. But yesterday was a gloomy day and it snowed, just a dusting. But it is still on the ground this morning. UGH!
It was a bit colder yesterday and this morning I actually began my countdown til spring. I need to cheer up because one of the projects I forced on these past few weeks was clearing the hillside so the grandkids and I can go sledding this winter. The hill was neglected over the summer and small trees and raspberry took over. The raspberries were a good thing, had lots of berries last summer. But they are thorny and it does not feel very good if we slide into a patch and get our faces slapped. So down they went.
One good thing about the cooler weather is I am now able to extend my running route. Across the road, there are corn fields and I have noticed an increase in the amount of times the "poison plane" would fly by and spray, so I avoided those areas while the crops were growing. I am not sure if there is an actual increase or if it is I am more aware since I was in there area one time and I heard the plane rev up and I had to run a mile to get out of the area. I had just barely managed to get across the street before it flew by that time. But then there is still the drifting of chemicals. Ever since I saw how much actually went onto the road in addition to the field, I have been avoiding that section of my route.
I ran it two days ago. It was nice to run on level ground. I prefer the level areas because I don't do hills very well, even if they are small. I think it is a mindset issue. I will most likely include that area again on my running route until the bitter cold settles in. Since there is nothing to block the wind sometimes it is too cold to run by the fields.
So there are pros and cons about the cold and snow on the ground this morning. But I do love having the seasons.
