Rat a Tat Tat - the Drummer's Beat - Tales from 100# Down

Thursday, November 21, 2013

I'm sure you have heard that old saying about someone marching to the beat of a different drummer. There are so many DIFFERENT drum beats in this busy world of ours. I like to think of our lives as a long march past stationary drummers. Sometimes as we are just stepping out of range of one we are already hearing another just ahead. To those walking a bit behind us they may see the change of pace and think we are totally missing the beat. It's a case of perspective! Soon they will be hearing the next drummer and adjusting their own step but at that fine line where the beat differs one looks absurd to the other and vice versa.

What's important is to march to the beat that one hears clearly whatever that might be. I've been on this journey for a long time (3 years and 4 months) and I'm hearing a new drumbeat - rat a tat tat. I have been stuck in a food rut and now I need to change it. What worked for the first 3 years isn't working so well now. I need to eliminate more processed foods, carbs, and SUGAR. You are probably thinking FINE time to talk about sugar with the holidays but actually it's the PERFECT time because that new drum beat is encouraging me to change my step!

I had 125 calories of sugar today. I didn't need it. I DID track it and figure it into my daily calorie total but I would like to get to that place where I can go days without it! That's going to take marching to that different drummer. I also need to change up my fitness. I've done the same thing for a long time. Either I need to do something new or change the intensity/length of what I'm doing.

Rat-a-tat-tat. I hear it. I might look odd to those behind me but I need to "get in step".

Here's hoping I can follow that drummer right through the holidays!

I hope you find a new different beat that works for you. I also find that after 3 years, what worked for you, does not work the same way. I also need to revamp my exercise and step up my eating habits a notch. Before the holidays is a great time for change.

Whatever works for you is good. It is HARD to give up sugar. I usually do it every Lent, and the first week or so is super tough. Once that's over, though, it gets easier. It is really bad for you, and I would like to have the willpower to continue fasting from it permanently. It hasn't happened yet. I hope the positive changes you are planning help you a great deal!

    Pink,

You go, GIRL!!! March to your own beat and get the job done, that you want done. I don't mind that you may be out of step, sometimes, as God is ever so faithful! He's the one who gave you that drum beat!!!

Be blessed,

- Nancy Jean -

I love the imagery of the drummers standing and us passing by...I'd never thought of it that way. Each of us needs to find that beat the works best for us at any given time in our lives...what anyone else thinks about it is insignificant, although sometimes hard to ignore! Keep on marching - you are inspirational!

Sometimes getting in step isn't as important as marching to your own drum. That rat-tat-tat is you getting in tune with your own body and what it needs to achieve your goals. You've got the rhythm, now beat that drum for all it's worth.

this is a good time to cut back on sugar. maybe this should be a Sapphire action plan in one of the upcoming daily or captain's challenge! also, if we do this, can we also target sodium? that is my problem - processed foods!

If you feel it's time for a change, it's time for a change. It doesn't matter what others say. I'm cheering for you in eliminating sugar. I'm personally not there yet. But more power to you! And don't worry that others may say this is a bad time of year to do that. And changing up your fitness routine is ALWAYS a good plan!

Eliminating sugary treats was one of the key pieces to my succeeding. Does not mean I never eat sweets but it is very limited. If I find that I have cravings it is probably because I had a sweet treat recently and I am craving it. I try to cut it off. Eating sweets regularly causes more cravings and undoes all the progress I've made.

Keep up the great work! March to that beat!! emoticon emoticon

When I needed to change up my fitness I added short jogging intervals to my walks. It really jumpstarted me back losing. Might give that a try.

I SO know what you are talking about! Getting pounds to come off gets harder and harder as we near our goal weight - its like our body is saying 'NO' I don't want to lose anymore of me!'

Keep pushing - I've been there and learned if you just keep working on your food and your fitness it WILL happen! In my case it seemed to be different 'hard spots' as my weight dropped. First it was getting under 160, then 150 then finally 145. WHY? Why 160 but not 155? Why 150 but not 149? I don't understand it at all but I've learned just to go with it and KEEP PUSHING! Which is just what you've been telling us all along!!

Thanks for the constant inspiration and encouragement!! emoticon emoticon

Great perspective! I'm on a modified sugar-free challenge until Th'giving, and it's changed how I see things. Becca

I love your positive attitude and your ability to not only recognize the need to change, but to embrace it and even welcome it!

Losing (even maintaining) can be a challenge through the holidays, but the holidays shouldn't be all about the food anyway!
