I never did post about my 5k that I finally did in October. It was a great race. And I was dead last. But I finished and that's all I wanted. I used a C25K program which really helped me get back to running after nearly 2 years off. My gf ran with me and paced me. She was a seasoned runner and just finished her first marathon and could have finished this one much earlier but she did this race to support me and my first race back and was great help to me. The volunteer who was marking mile 2 and as he saw I was the last one to pass, came and paced with us also. He was a great guy, encouraging, and we talked about our experience at the Portland Marathon that my gf ran and he helped take my mind off finishing that last mile. As we got closer he veered off and wished me well. My gf took off so she could take my picture. And as I was going up the last incline alone, there were runners all around who were cheering me on the whole way there and it was so meaningful to me that even though I was last, they were there cheering me on. I finished at 1:03 which was a bit slower than my last 5k 2 years ago at around 55 min. At my current weight, I know it will take awhile to get faster but I am working on putting in more miles and doing cross-training on my non-running days. I signed up for a 5 mile Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day. I did 4 1/2 miles with my gf last weekend and feel good and strong for this race. I will probably be last again, but that's okay with me. And then I will marry my sweetheart and running partner the next day. It's going to be a great month!
