Silly Game Made Walking More Fun

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Here I am 44 years old, and honestly, sometimes I think I'm still a kid.

It was more challenging today to get exercise in because I had to run errands that took a few hours but I was determined to stick to my guns about exercising.

So at 4:o0 this afternoon, I knew there was only so much daylight left. My daughter is so sweet to go walking with me. She says it's because she wants to encourage me, but I think she enjoys it too. There are so many cool things for a kid to check out down our country road. Things like a couple old, deteriorating houses, a graveyard, a few dirt roads that lead into fields, deer, squirrels. Since we homeschool, she is always interested in all the trees, their leaves and especially bugs. I swear she will be an entomologist someday.

We end up finding some discarded soda bottles (I wish the college kids would not trash our road) and just start kicking them down the road. We were getting so much exercise zig zagging across the road when the bottles would 'jank', we had to run to catch up to them to chase the dogs off from our bottles or we'd have to chase the dogs to get them back. We even started playing a combination of trying to kick the other's bottle while playing keep away with our own. We were running, bending over, out in the field and laughing the whole time.

The walk ended up taking 50% longer, but it felt like we did it in half our usual time. It was so fun and we made some great memories today too.

I'll have to post some pics of our 3 musketeers that keep us company on our walks. The canine ones, that is.

Until tomorrow . . .

Great exercise, but even more importantly, are the memories you made that will last you both forever.

Doing things like this is what will make you successful in the long run. You found a way to add more omph to your walk while keeping it fun. Carry this idea with you when you are trying to add movements and fun to your daily routines emoticon emoticon

It's healthy to remember how to play. I'm 61. Recently my walking buddy and I were on a trail near a park. Someone had drawn a hopscotch board. Without comment we both hopped down the board as if we do it every day. Then we started laughing and did it a few more times. We didn't notice if people were watching or worry what they might think. I hope we never grow up!

hmmm . . . I will have to try half full. Mine was empty and I liked how it bounced and 'janked' more. My word. I just coined that. Feel free to borrow it anytime. Perhaps I will be a bottle kickin' connoisseur in no time. I might even swirl and sniff to detect the bouquet. lol

Y'all never mind me. I get punchy after a long day. emoticon

Glad to meet another bottle kicker. Maybe we'll start a trend.

emoticon I am SO Happy to see someone else likes to Kick Bottles!! It is a great Extra Exercise to follow their Path, LOL!! I have discovered that (provided they are tightly capped!) it is more entertaining to kick bottles that are at least partly full!!
