Day 16: A Report on My Plan, Nuturing Power of Food!

Sunday, November 17, 2013

So today I had an opportunity to put the plan from Friday to the test. Last night I went up to deer camp and hung out with my husband. We had dinner, which was healthy, and I didn't even have to cook it! This morning my hubby went off the hunt and I came home. On my way home I thought I'd stop for a cup of coffee, and of course the first thing I see when I walk in is the donut display. I bought one. One of those chocolate frosted long johns with yummy white creamy filling. Wow! it looked delicious! I got my coffee, and proceeded home. It was only then that I thought about Friday's blog. So instead of digging right in, which was the original plan, I drove home to make up my mind about what I was going to do. I came in, and brought in my junk, and got comfortable. I ate two bites. I savored the taste and the texture. Yumm!!! Then I got up, put the rest of the donut in the bag I carried it home in. I smashed it up and threw it in the trash. I had to smash it up, because otherwise, I would have gone back to the trash and dug it out and eaten it. Believe me, this was not easy to do! But I did enjoy the rest of my coffee, and decided to write a report while it was still fresh in my mind. For me, still, the best choice is to just not buy it!

So friends, that is my report!
Have a great Sunday!

Thanks for all the encouragement! In all honesty, when I posted this, and then re-read it, I realized that at the time of purchase I was NOT thinking about only taking 2 bites, soo... In this case, Linda Spangle is right on the money, and the 2 bite theory worked! It is a great tool to have, and not gobbling it up as soon as I got into the car is also a great thing to remember!

Windy - It is great that you stopped your automatic mode and worked one of your new tools to handle the situation. I'm not sure I could have been so strong. Wow! Great job.

If you get a chance you should read the article on binge eating. It actually suggests you take those two bites every now and then and not deprive yourself. Its the deprivation that can make us totally go overboard when we have access to that delicious treat we've been depriving ourselves of. (You get 5 points for reading the article too.)

Sometimes it helps not just to smash it up, but to mix it with inedible substances... like coffee grounds or kitty litter... depending on how serious your impulses are!

Good job, by the way, on following through on your intention!
