That was not suppose to happen, back from Nigeria

Sunday, November 17, 2013

Back from Nigeria, the people there are wonderful, my preconceived ideas were all thrown out the window. We immunized over 3500 children, supplied a birthing clinic with tons of supplies, gave 50 hand-crank wheel chairs to polio survivors and, commissioned a bridge, 3 room school, water bore hole and toilets for a small village, which we provide funding for.

On the down side, I weighed 4 lbs heavier on my return....I din't like the food(way too spicy) and mostly ate protein bars and drank gatorade. I also have a nasty flu/cold. I did have a flu shot before leaving, but it was obviously not for the same strain. (this too shall pass).

Funny things said to me on my return:
1. Hubby at airport "Honey, I love you, but you look like H@!!" and I did.
2. Immigration officer " Where are you coming from"
me "Nigeria"
IO "Pleasure or Business?"
me "Does anyone go to Nigeria for vacation?"
IO "true"
3. Friend on my flu "were you around anyone with a flu or cold?'
me "yeah like 3000 snotty face kids, seriously"

team leader, who is a Polio survivor, being guided on a foot path for the 2 mile walk to a small village.

Catching up on some of my SF blogs. Impressed with your mission! How admirable. I am a nurse but have not done anything of this nature. What group did you go with? Hope you are feeling better! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Thank you for doing what you just did. We take so much for granted in this country; it's nice to be reminded how we can make a positive impact in the lives of others.
