Some progress with blood sugar after almost 4 weeks in ketosis

Friday, November 15, 2013

4 weeks ago my A1c level was 6.1, today it is 5.9. They were done by different labs so there may be some difference there but if it keeps dropping like this then I might be out of the pre-diabetic range by the end of the year.
This also shows me that lowering my carbs to under 50 grams/day is most likely going to be sufficient for my situation. Eating like this for the rest of my life is not going to be difficult at all as I can have a little bit of fruit every day and some very dark chocolate in small quantities.

Great to see progress! A quick Googling of the state of the test (NGSP A1C reproducibility) suggests each lab should give the same results within 1 - 2% of the "standard". Your 3% drop in 4 weeks should include some "real" shift.

How fast the actual measured condition can change is related to the turnover of red blood cells, which is around 90 - 120 days. In your recent test, you were seeing 30 days worth of "new" red blood cell values, along with 60 to 90 days worth of "old".

You are a great inspiration to me.
I want the levels that you have! Usually I am in the 110's.
Today after a glass of wine, my fasting glucose is 130.
Today I run and get it down again.

emoticon I have not had an A1c, but my fasting glucose is almost always 90 when I have it taken and today at our work biometrics it was 80. Thankfully I don't think I have blood sugar issues, but if I did, there's proof it works!
