What gifts don't become clutter?

Friday, November 15, 2013

With the holidays here, many of us are out shopping. Lots of the things we give or get later just clutter our homes-even though they were purchased with thoughtfulness and given with love!

At my age and downsizing to move, I am conscious of things I need to get rid of, as much as some of them mean to me. Many things are hard to part with. And surely I would not want to live in a sterile home with no decorations or memories!

Thanks for giving us all some good ideas! chris

THINGS NOT TO GIVE--OR GET!

I love to give my grandchildren experiences instead of stuff. This year for my granddaughter's recent four birthday I bought her and her two similar age cousins tickets to ride the Santa Express train.

gift cards (restaurants, stores, car washes, amazon, itunes, salons, massages, etc); food; coupons for time with you, or services you can give (cleaning, a walk, a "get out of trouble free" card, a kiss, a hug, etc); a heart-felt, hand written note telling someone how much they mean to you.

So funny ! Unfortunately, I may have given one or two as bad as those. I will put put much more thought and effort into gift giving this year ! Thanks for sharing !

The slippers WOULD be a time saver.... emoticon

My sister sent me a barbeque dinner. It was wonderful! She also once sent me a recipe for a special dish with all the spices I would need to make the dish. That became a favorite in our family. I also enjoy getting music and books, although many people read and listen online now. And I always love to get flowers. But giving to charity might be the best idea. We already have so much....

I love Carol's idea of making soup & cookie mixes and sending as gifts. I'd love getting things such as these as gifts. emoticon

I make homemade mixes, ready to turn into cookies, brownies, soup, etc. with the instructions on how to finish them off. They give my daughters a quick meal or batch of cookies without so much work. They've really liked them as gifts. You can make so many homemade things as gifts and I think family at least really appreciates it.
