Surgery

Friday, November 15, 2013

Saw a surgeon today.

He said that he won't do my hernia repair unless I lose at least 120 lbs.

He is, naturally, a bariatric surgeon, as well. He wants to do a Bilio Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch?

He claimed it is completely safe for old ladies such as myself, and that I won't have any problems absorbing nutrients and won't need supplements.

Everything I read about it says otherwise, which naturally means I don't trust him, now.

He also claimed that I had good enough skin turgor to not need much skin surgery afterwards. At 62! Who is he kidding? It means basically that not much is covered beyond the belly. No batwings or boob lifts. I might be able to live with that, fine, if he was honest.

His reviews online are totally mixed - either raves of praise or condemnation. He is very charismatic but that does not make a good doctor, of itself.

My PCP is pushing for that or a lapband.

If I'm finally getting somewhere on my own, though, and I'm down 35 lbs, mostly in the last six weeks, then I don't think that's too shabby. If I can do it on my own and not stall too much, then ok. We'll see. Not sure what to decide. He has some seminar next Monday. I am skeptical.

I heard too many bad things about those things both the stomach staple, the lap band and the cutting the intestines to bits and none of them good. Plus they don't know what will happen down the road. As for that doctor I would not trust him, it seems that he is just going for the money. That is not good. Go with your gut feelings.

Sue go with your intuition. This doctor is a hack. He just wants to make a buck at your expense. Congratulations on the great weight lose. I think you should do the weight loss yourself. You will be healthier and stronger for the surgery later on. My sister had that done. First off the surgery is awful. She had reflux from day one of the surgery. As time progressed, she couldn't eat much of anything without throwing it up afterwards and she started gaining weight just a year after going through all of that. She didn't eat much, but gained weight. You still have to diet and exercise after the surgery. Don't let anyone kid you about this surgery. It isn't worth it. Besides you can lose this weight. You are already off to a great start. It is a lot of work and discipline. It isn't easy, but so worth it. I would never consider that kind of surgery after seeing the misery my sister went through with it and still gained her weight back within 10 years of it. Then there is the reality of infection with any surgery. I went through that. Not fun. Very dangerous! You can do this. Lose it on your own. You will be healthier and stronger for that surgery that is needed. I would find a different doctor for a second option as well. Hugs

I wouldn't do the lapband as I have seen to many people get it and still manage to eat 24/7 and lose almost nothing.

I know a woman from Youtube that got the SLEEVE surgery and lost 160# and she went to the doctor for the batwing surgery and he wanted to do a boob lift and she said she could only afford the $3900 for the batwings and so he finally said "I'll do both since I'll have you on the table and not charge you any more." She was thrilled with the results. She had a lot of stomach skin but she just left it as is. Another woman I know of went to Mexico and got a tummy tuck in Cancun and was happy. Another is going to the Dominican republic and getting a TT for $4500. There are places to get it done.
