I have this crazy schedule, I work 12 hour night shifts (7pm to 7am) 7 days in a row and then have 7 days off. During my work week I do what I call "bookmark" workouts. These are workouts designed to maintain my current level of fitness. I try really hard not increase mileage or effort during this week, because I never get enough sleep to perform well. I do, however, keep a really close eye on food management, and it is almost always is reflected on the scale. On my off week, I really go hard at it exercisewise and just can't seem to get as committed to calorie monitoring (this may be because I fall under the sway of my carb addict, junkfood junkie spouse when I'm not at work, but I do admit that I am the gatekeeper of my own mouth !). I almost always gain at least a small amount on my off week, despite some pretty major calorie expenditures. I guess it's time to figure out how to "bookmark" my eating habits.
