Sitting on the right side of the hump...

Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Does everyone realize... Thanksgiving is 2 weeks from tomorrow! I didn't realize that until I was making my grocery list. How can it be so close?? It will just be dh and I, so I don't have any big plans to worry about. Thanksgiving is a pretty chill day around here. Dinner and football. I just can't believe it will be here so soon! No complaints, though... I love the holidays!

I made the split pea soup tonight. It was good, but a bit heavily spiced. The recipe I used gave a seasoning range and I seasoned on the high end... should've done it on the low end. Even so, it was yummy. I really liked the texture, all creamy and delicious. So thumbs up to that!

Other than going to the library, I haven't really done anything else today. Well, I ordered gifts for my Mom and grandmother for Christmas and their birthdays. But otherwise... nothing else. I should have gotten my lazy behind out there and gone for a walk, but... I was lazy. I haven't eaten much, though. Just the soup and a turkey sandwich.

Tonight was menu planning night. Our menu for Fri - Wed is done now, and tomorrow is shopping day. I'm trying to cook cheaper foods to save some money for holiday stuff, but man, food is SO expensive. We're also buying part of the stuff for our Turkey Day dinner. Even if it is only the two of us, I always like to fix our traditional favorites, and that always costs a pile of money. It will be worth it, though, when the holiday arrives.

So while I'm on the topic of saving money, I wanna pick your brains... what's your favorite healthy, economical meal/recipe? Always looking for ideas!

Hope everyone has had a Happy Hump Day!

Vegetables are usually a good plan: I like to make Brussels Sprouts with pecans: sauté a few onions with the pecans, steam the BS and then throw the whole thing together. You can do that with a lot of other veggies if you don't like BS.
