A Week To Remember

Monday, November 11, 2013

Last Monday, I went to the airport to pick up my youngest daughter, Sherry. Who did I see coming out of the airport first? It was my oldest daughter, Sarah! They came in together to visit. What a wonderful surprise! We had enough time to come back to the condo and drop off the suitcases and then their dad came to pick them up to spend time with each other. They got home late and we were all tired by that time, so we went to bed.

Tuesday morning, Sherry told me she had a present for me. I opened it up and it was a book - "Grandmother Remembers". I'M GOING TO BE A GRANDMA! Friday, we went to her second doctor appointment and she got an ultrasound. It was so great to see that baby and to hear that heartbeat. What a beautiful sound!

We got to visit family and friends all week and surprise them with the news. That was fun!

We spent time with both my mom and former mother-in-law. On Tuesday, when we went to have lunch with my mom. We took one look at her hands and I called the doctor. The doctor took one look at her hands and sent us to the hospital right away. She had chemicals irritate her hands and bacteria got in and infected them badly. She was in the hospital overnight with an IV drip of antibiotics.

My mother-in-law is 89 and has dementia. She is on medication now and was better this time than she was the last time we saw her. My mom is showing signs of it. It breaks my heart to see this. I am spending more time with my mom lately, trying to help all I can, trying to spend quality time with her. Neither one will have a lot of time with my grandbaby. And I know what fantastic grandmas they are! My girls have the best!

I want to get a tape recorder. I will use it to sit and talk with both of them. I want to save it for the baby so the baby will know how special they are.

The circle of life: it's giving me such strong mixed emotions right now. I have a hallelujah for my new miracle and a heavy heart for my mom and mother-in-law.

Lovely blog, great summary but bittersweet to realize that you mom and MIL will miss out on being this new little babe's gramma, so that means you will have to make up for all that.... (no pressure!)

We took my MIL to hospital Monday nite cuz she had pains in her side, nothing showed up though...

I did just what you said with my Nanny before she died, I actually went through her photo albums and then taped her voice telling me who the people were, how they were related and also some nice little stories.... I was taking a Multi Media Program at University at the time, and I made it into a Family Album on a CD.... so I Have saved her voice and many of her pics... and the oldest pic I got from her albums, was of her grandfather when he was 92..... so that would be my great great grandfather....
Very cool... I shared it with my niece and her dd's a few months ago and they really enjoyed it... something pretty special....
Congrats again.... get those knitting needles out....(too bad you didn't live close, I have my Friday Night Knitting Club starting at the library tomorrow nite..... wish you could be here!)
Hugs, Lila
(darn, yesterday I found a really cool knitting emoticon, and now I can't find it...)

A pretty amazing week indeed. The tape recorder is an excellent idea!! If i was you, I would bring a lust of questions to ask them to help them remember. Sometimes playing their favorite old songs help people remember. God bless you and congratulations on the new baby to be. emoticon

You can also record them on a digital camera and upload it, if it will help preserve the quality. I have a digital voice recorder, too that uploads. I lost my dad's tape cassette. :( so

I am glad you found out about your mom's hands! yey for that!
